22nd November
Hello!
Day 3 in Chiang Mai consisted of another early start and a trip to the Golden Triangle, Laos and The Hill Tribes.
First stop was a visit to the hot springs although to be honest they were a little unexciting just a couple of pools of hot water which stank of sulpher and another tourist market ( we have seen soooo many!)
Next it was off to see the temples of Chiang Rai, it wasn't as impressive as others we have seen as to us it just looked like a construction site with a few tourist market stalls thrown in for good measure!
We then headed to the Golden triangle, which is the northern most point in Thailand which allows us to clearly see both Laos and Burmha. A huge Buddah stands guard on the Thai border along with several viewing points. After Lunch and many a photo we boarded a speed boat that took us to Laos via a fishing village.
We ended the evening with a visit to two hill tribe villages where we met both the Long Necks and The Big Ears, these names are for real! It was shocking to see how these women lived, Hayley tried on a neck brace and it weighed a ton so it must be awful for these women to wear them all their lives! The braces weigh 4kg and the idea is that the brace will protect them from a tiger bite to the neck however in reality the brace pushes down their shoulders elongating their necks. We're not really sure what the deal with bigears are though! We believe it could just be a fashion statement!
Have a look at the photos and see for yourselves...
We're off to the Thai islands in the south for some rest and relaxation after the madness of Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
Bye for now
Love Hayley and Mike xxxxxxxxxxx
