When I flew out of Australia one of the customs officers was suspicious of my reasons for flight to Malaysia. I told them I was on a work trial for 3 months; but he seemed to think I legally needed a visa or a return ticket to enter. Obviously I knew this wasn't the case as did the other attendants (you only need a visa after working 3 months).
So once I batted my eyelids through it, I hoped to god that they wouldn't ask me the same thing in KL and hopped on my way.
The 8 hour 11pm plane ride over was sticky and yuck. All the other passengers clicked onto taking the empty seats for bed time so I was too late and got zero sleep for the 8 hours.
When we arrived at 5am I noticed the air was beautiful and looked sunny and cool. This was the start of my new life; the city that was going to breathe life into my kiwi veins!
Getting off the plane was fine as it was straight into air conditioned areas and pretty empty being so early. I found my way to the train and started making my way to baggage reclaim. I said goodbye to a lovely couple I met at the coffee shop going on a cruise through the islands, and tried to pull my s*** together.
Getting through the airport was the scary part as I was about to be picked up by someone I barely knew; and had spoken to on the phone less than 5 times. WHAT ON EARTH were we going to talk about!?! I sure as s*** didn't look half professional in my skirt & jandals; no sleep and fuzzy hair!
When I came out of the gates we both knew each other straight away, and started walking over. Oh god. Oh god. Do I hug? Or do I hand shake? My bags in my hand. Oh fack. Do I just wave? Do I smell funny? How's my hair?
In the typical kiwi fashion it was more a "sup" "how was the flight" and he seemed legit so I began to breathe again.
He took my suitcase & took me to the phone service to get a new sim, talked about things like the flights, all seemed to go well. Got out of the airport and couldn't believe the bloody air! My life was now to be a permanent sauna.
As I got into the taxi and we started our journey to the cafe, I looked out the window. Heads up Haylee! Welcome home!
