Today we rode the Bart in to San Francisco. It was quite something standing at the Castro Valley station in the middle of the freeway watching the big trucks thunder past. We came up from the Bart onto Powell Street and were immediately struck by the beautiful architecture and then the excitement of seeing our first Bloomingdales. We then rode the cable car across town to the bay. It was a great experience going up and down the amazingly steep streets on the cable car. We then walked up Lombard St the crookedest street in the world. Again it was a really steep street and we observed the island of Alcatraz. We then walked around the bay, I dipped my toes in the Pacific, we ate calamari and crab melt sandwiches at Fisherman's Wharf, stopped for salt water taffy, cocktails at hard rock and some fun shopping. To end an amazing day Marilyn and Carl kindly picked us up from the Bart station and cooked us a lovely dinner. We are being well and truly spoilt and having a wonderful time.
