Hello From La Paz
Yes i apologise for the delay in sending this blog, i´ve been sort of busy ish, so i´ll split the blog so you can stop for breath...
well i suppose i better start from Cuenca ..we skid-addled from there around the 15th June to undertake the boarder crossing into Peru .
Jo and i were given separate seats on the bus (..this trip was obviously not going to go well)....,i ended up with this old guy next to me (i mean like 80 at least)....i woke up half way through the night with him attempting to put his hand down my trousers...well as you can imagine an interesting one way dialect ensued....in English and Spanish!!! ..and said old bloke moved seats promptly....
we got off to get our passports stamped and had to wait a good 20-30 minutes while i banged on the door trying to wake said boarder guard..followed by encouragements from the Ecuadorians saying " you´ll have to bang harder if you want to wake him!!"
after finally getting our passports stamped Jo returned to the bus to discover that someone had gone into her bag and stolen her camera...and was in tears poor lass...so i did my bit and confronted the dodgy and slightly abashed looking youths (was already not in a good mood!)..who kept shrugging their shoulders and looking away...
well a nice fellow on the bus provided some assistance by roughing up one of the lads and dragging him (literally) to the police station, where a few of them got further roughed up by local police.......but we were unable to get the camera back!...GITS...
so we returned to bus to continue trip into Piura , Peru ...Goodbye Ecuador !!!!!...not saying i did´t like Ecuador ..
Best Bits
- Mindo, Cloud Forest...Pretty Butterflies...and Waterfalls
- Sasquilli Market...Animal Craziness
- Cotopaxi ....My lungs have still not forgiven me for the forced exercise..but the view was amazing
- Coca...Truly the last frontier before hitting primary rain forest
- Banos...Great Party Scene and some brilliant views
Worst Bits
- Thieves, pirates and scoundrals...EVERYWHERE...especially gits on buses
- Violence In Quito ...waking up to women screaming for her life at 4am..not fun..
- Cuenca ...Boring!
so once we got into Piura , we had to report jo´s camera stolen, the hostel manager told us to say it was stolen in Pirua otherwise the police would do nothing...
we spent an uneventful 2 hours in the police station trying to get a police report. The policemen seemed more interested in looking at jo and myself and sniggering then doing any work..after 2 translators (one of which spent half and hour chatting me up in broken English!) a parade of photos of suspects who looked they they´d been roughed up a bit...and some very dodgy looks off officers, we finally got the report we need to give to the insurance company...we treated ourselves with shopping binge and cocktails......ITS A GIRL THING!
I have added some photos for your amusement...no laughing at my hair!
End of Part 1...
