Debra, a counselor for people with substance abuse problems, and her 3 years old daughter, had decided to spend their Saturday at the 2nd annual Pumpkin Carving Festival, and I had a chat with the two of them while watching the corporate competition displays from the night before.
Debra didn't know that the Pumpkin Carving Festival was a fundraiser for Keiki O Ka Aina and the Hawai'i Children's Discovery Center, but she was very exited about finding out, since as she said: "I daily work with women who have not always been there for their children, and could only imagine how thankful they would be for an opportunity like this".
Both Debra and her daughter had been enjoying the day, and said that: "there is such a great atmosphere with the characters and the Halloween decoration, and you are meet by a strong family vibe, which really makes you feel welcome".
It was their first time at the festival, but when I asked if they would be back next year Debra looked at me with a big smile, and said: "We defiantly will!".
