So..... We arrived in Surfers Paradise in the station wagon and tried to find a place to stay but surfers paradise is really built up and mainly hotels so they we ended up booking onto a place in the next town called Southport! We checked into a campsite and managed to get a chalet room for a reasonable price so we booked 4 nights. Next day we went to check out the beach it's huge as you would imagine and also loads of people surfing (obviously as it's surfers paradise)! The beaches are really long and go on for miles. While we were at the campsite we ended up chatting with a guy who was a lobster fisherman called Bruce from Melbourne he ended up taking us out one night to show us round the town and took us to some of the best bars and bought us cocktails etc then took us to the casino, he was betting $500 on the tables think we are in the wrong business we need to get a boat!! Had a great time the weather was really good too so chilled out for the four days we were there.
We had to start heading back down to Sydney as we had to get the station wagon back to a place called Maloubra which is just outside Sydney. We set off the car was great to drive and I drove for the first time I have never driven an automatic before it was great you dont have to think about it at all and the roads are amazing just long and straight with hardly no traffic so we were enjoying the drive back. The first night we checked onto a place they had no accommodation available but said we could park the car on there and use the facilites so we had to do that and we slept in the back of the car and used my sarong and the stoke flag as covers! Next daywe set of really early and managed to get most of the way down again had to check onto a site that had no accommodation available so we slept in the car again. We went to the social club onsite which we thought would be a right dive but when you walk in it was huge with a massive casino so we had a good night in there withj a few beers to help us sleep! Next morning we awoke and the whole place was covered in dust we put the radio on and it said that it was the end of the world we were like what on earth is going on. Turns out there had been a huge sandstorm that had blown in and the whole of Sydney was covered in a red dust they had stopped all the flights and everything from the airport, where we were was not as bad but still it was really bad weather super windy when you were driving, I think that also made the news back at home also. I think the carwashes must have made a fortune over those few days, the cars were thick in dust!
We made our way to Maloubra which is really beautiful and found an internet place to look for somewhere to stay most places were fully booked but we managed to find a hostel ao we booked it and then took the car back. We caught the bus into Sydney and arrived at the hostel that we had booked.
