I'm going to keep this one short because this blog has been a pain in the ass since I started it.
My last day was spent on a fast tracked tour through Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city. It gets a bad reputation, but I found it to be quite pleasant apart from the unbearable humidity. Gabo took me to a few lookouts with 360 degree views of the huge city and rivers flowing through. I also paid for what was surely the most expensive meal I had bought in South America, I think it was $15 dollars, but was quite good. Time flew by that day, and at 5pm I was at the airport, half ready to leave, half wanting to stay. Mostly it was a desire to stay, and it is only now writing this from London (yes it's taken that long to finish) that I absolutely cannot wait to get back to such a diverse, fascinating and beautiful continent.
If I had any advice, it would be simply to just go to South America, don't waste your time listening to warnings from people that have never been, let alone left their own country. It is no more dangerous than anywhere else. Take a chance, leave your comfort zone, be smart and you are guaranteed the time of your life, like I had. It is a continent of superlatives - home to the driest deserts, some of the highest mountains, largest forests, most diverse wildlife, longest rivers, biggest waterfalls, most famous landmarks, tastiest food and friendliest people. I am incredibly grateful and lucky to have done every single thing I did over the course of my 5 month trip. There is no place like it, and you will never have an experience to rival it.
Peace out!
