I forgot to say yesterday, that I was feeling very faint from lack of food and sugar, my body was aching from walking. I managed to have some chocolate and bought a lollypop which helped a lot!
This morning when I woke up the Dadas were already eating breakfast, I joined the table, and again, there was no breakfast for me! I just had chai. I had a bar and some parachichi. I was so annoyed, not only have I paid for food, it is my right to eat! After breakfast I text Kabalo to say that yesterday and today I was given no breakfast and that he needs to make sure there is breakfast for me tomorrow when I return from the orphanage. I said to him that I can eat eggs or fruit in the morning but not chips. He responded saying that he's sorry, Mama Queenie must have forgotten. I was not having that, not at all! I responded to say that she gives me chai in the morning, and so she is aware and can clearly see that she has not given me any breakfast and that I have nothing to eat. Again he said sorry; but it's not good enough. He cannot expect me to have no breakfast. Chips was one thing, but to have nothing is shocking. I am so thankful that Dad told me to bring the bars with me, otherwise, I would be going more crazy with hunger than I already am!
After breakfast Vale, Andrea, Mathilde and I headed in to town as we needed to get some food from the market and some drinking water. I bought some sweets and banana chips which I scoffed down as I was so hungry and felt faint again. My energy levels feel at an optimum low in the mornings. Lunch was chips mayai, I felt slightly full from my banana chips and sweets but had to eat as I knew i'd be hungry later and wouldn't know what time tea will be or what it will be. I left a few of the chips as they were very greasy, and the grease is not sitting well on my stomach here; probably because of the lack of food that I am eating.
This afternoon Lael, Delia and I went in to town. I bought a ketenge earlier this morning which Mama Caratas altered and sewed a hem into it for me. It cost 11000 shillings, so just over 4 pounds, which is not a lot. A ketenge is the item of clothing that ladies wrap around them or wrap on their heads, or wear as skirts.
This morning a man followed Vale, Andrea, Mathilde and I from the main road to where we bought the water. Andrea is a very friendly person and talks to everyone, but she needs to realise that she cannot be everyone's friend. He tried to take the trolley of water off of the guy who was transporting it for us and then tried to follow us further. We managed to get him to stop, with help from the transporter. He stunk of alcohol! Vale, Mathilde and I were getting slightly scared as he would not leave us alone. When I returned to town with Lael and Delia, he saw us by the bereau de change where he then followed us to the first internet cafe, he tried to talk to us but we ignored him. We decided to move on from this internet cafe, partly because the internet is slow there and partly to get away from him. He followed us for a short while, but eventually he stopped. He's a very strange man. He tries to sell us things from other people's shops. He smells so strongly of alcohol that is probably very drunk, and I am not a fan of people like this, they scare me.
Today I am on evening shift, so will be heading back from town shortly in hope that tea will be ready before Mathilde and I head to the orphanage. We told Mama Queenie this morning, I hope she understood, as her English is very minimal as is my Swahili. I shall update you tomorrow!
Hope you're all enjoying your Monday!
