In Australia...Sydney
Darwin to Alice Springs, Australia
Adventure tours, Shara
Ok, another stage of the journey. Basically i am going to bullet point what we did. I am in Airlie Beach while i am writing this and trying to catch back up. This wasnt a particualry exciting stage of the journey and the photos i have taken generally dont need anything else to be added. So here goes...
1) Devil's Marbles- amazing and in my opionion much better than uluru
2) Thermal pool full of bats where we were supposed to be able to swim but had been fllooded
3) Juno Farm- saw beautiful consellations for the first time
4) A famous pub where 'thongs' and other items had been collected
5) A walk to katherine gorge were it started poruing with rain once we got to the beautiful viewpoint.
The Red Centre, Australia
Adventure Tours, Friendly Clarke
This was another exciting tour- the guide was particularly unfriendly. Again i am going to quickly bullet point what we did on this one night trip to save myself some time. 1) Uluru- the whole reason we did this part of the trip. I was most taken aback by the sheer size of it. The majority of postcards are all taken a huge distance away from it and up close you can only capture really insignifacnt and small parts of it. The different rock faces were intersting and some had huge missing craters, water trickling down and various affects of weathering. We arrived for sunrise however due to it being a very cloudy and windy day it passed us by. But still an awesome sight to see! The walk up uluru was closed because of the high speed winds but it looked very treacherous and difficult regardless of the weather conditions. I had already made my decision not to climb as it is disrespetcufl too aborignal culture but a few people were quite disapointed by this. 2) Kings Canyon and Heart Attack Hill- I failed to see this. We started this at 12.30pm so right in the middle of the midday heat. We began going up the huge climb but it was just too hot and i was too exhausted so i went back down. It just didnt seem sensible to exert myelf so much in 55degree heat and then fall ill. As well as this the majority of signs said you should be of high level of fitness, have 5litres of water and to avoid doing it if the conditons are over 30degrees. Issey and Will then came down about 15minutes later and we trekked to the look out point where we were supposed to wait for Clarke to call down to us. Me and Issey came back after getting bored and hot and met the rest of our group. However, Will remained to wait and ended up causing Clarke to come and find him highly cross and quite aggrssive before humiltating him in front of the whole coach. 3) Kata Juda, a gorge where we walked to the centre, took photos and then returned back to the coach because of such high and stong winds. That was the end of this part, not very enjoyable and i was pleased at the prospect of leaving the outback and heading to the east coast. First stop Cairns!
