After an early rise I set out together with Laurence and Helen to the top of the mountain. During the night we didn't get much sleep, and Becksy was too affected by altitude sickness to continue upwards. Luke finally also couldn't continue.
Laurens, Helen and I made it to the top and had some time to find a nice spot to wait for the sunrise. The actual sunrise was really cool, and a good reward for the effort we took in climbing the mountain. After sunrise we walked around the crater of the mountain and saw this magical view: the shadow of the mountain (see picture above)!
Since Fuji hasn't got any significant mountain in its' direct surroundings, the shadow of the mountain remains relatively undisturbed. It is a very cool sight, and I am very happy that I was able to see it!
When we arrived back down I realized that this was indeed a very special once-in-a-lifetime experience!
When we were back at the train station I said farewell to the group as they were going to Tokio while I was going to Kyoto, to meet Shinya (my friend from the IFP-school) who works and lives in Kyoto.
When I arrived in Kyoto, tired, sweaty etc. I had still some time to wait before Shinya was done with his work, so I decided to go to a public onsen to wash myself and put on some fresh clothes. The onsens in Japan are really magnificent and in my experience very good for your muscles.
Finally at 19:00 I met up with Shinya and after dropping my luggage in his appartment we went to an Izakaya for a very nice meal!
