Today we took a bus to Shanghai, as it is only a 1,5 hours drive. Fortunately we overslept, so we started our day well!
In the bus I noticed that the humidity of the air increased significantly, which upon arrival in Shanghai appeared to be true. I was not only hot, it was very humid as well.
Our hotel was situated in a nice area of the city, close to the well-known East-Nanjing shopping street.
After an interesting lunch in a Japanese noodle fast-food shop we started on our morning orientation tour of the city by walking to the Bund. This is the area of Shanghai that was colonized and where still a lot of old, art-deco big buildings can be found. A nice breeze helps a lot in cooling us down while we enjoy the non-view over the water, since the city really suffers from a very high amount of smog.
Our next stop is Pudong, where we go to the Yuyuang gardens and bazaar, a touristy area rebuilt in old-style where not only a lot of souvenirs are sold but also a lot of "art-students" try to lure you to their schools' exhibition. After 3 minutes we are more or less fed-up with this, so Christopher, Michelle and I decide to continue our walking tour to the antiques and animal market. Especially the cricket-sellers attract my attention.
After this, we go to our hotel to drop our stuff, go to an internet cafe and have lunch (at KFC). Unfortunately Christopher lost his credit card (which later appeared to be stolen).
This whole negative experience had one positive result:
The note (that was written in Chinese by our hotel) explaining that he had lost his card, and that we were currently looking for it, proved a useful means to get rid of street-vendors.
