Another rainy day in milano so it was nice to sleep in and have a lazy start to the day. After a coffee served by one of the hottest Italians I've seen yet, I picked a couple of trams to catch to their terminus to see more of the city, getting off if I saw things that interested me.
My lunch spot was a fantastic discovery - Milan goes all out with buffet brunch on the weekend but I did not have any suggested places to try. I stumbled across a chocolate cafe that did a very elaborate version for €22 - which got you coffee and juice, a lunch main which in my case was two types of fresh pasta, ricotta and tomato tubes and pesto pasta with cherry tomatoes and pine nuts. Then there was the pastry and fruit platter with Italian merangue and melted and shaved chocolate to drizzle over everything. I spent my lunch talking to two stylish Milan guys who adopted me. The waiter looked like he would cry when I declined a second go at the dessert buffet, honestly how do they all stay so slim - they do not stop eating!
The rain did not let up so I had a really good look in the shops and found a lovely dress - the prices are actually reasonable in the normal shops. All Australian men should immediately be put on a plane to Milan, the mens clothes are gorgeous, no wonder they all look so stylish. The guys take great pride in their hair and shaving, there are just no slobs!
I walked deep into my local area until I found another little bar full of locals with incredible nibbles - this was a full hot nibble selection to go with your drinks including the best crumbed veal, roasted veges, pasta, risotto and the usual antipasta and wine all for €5. I have warmed to Milan and think your experience depends on how hard and far you are willing to go to see the real city, otherwise it would be very easy to sink into the many tourist pits here.
