Harbour Springs
Friday 16th June
We wake early after a warm nights sleep and go down to reception for breakfast which is standard hotel fare but is quite nice nonetheless
After collecting the car we drive out and head north towards Mackinaw City driving through the back roads and after getting quite low on petrol we come across a tiny little independent petrol station,we enquire wether the old fashioned pump still works and are assured that it does and so we fill up.
We cross the Mackinaw Bridge and stop in the visitor centre to get maps then continue on to St Ignace which is a nice coastal town with a lovely walk out to a lighthouse,
On return to the car we go back across the Mackinaw Bridge into Mackinaw city and stop at a little park on the waterfront and take in the view,
We drive into Petrosky and get some supplies for dinner at the supermarket.
Back at the hotel and we go and sit around the pool with some wine and beer in the lovely hot sun.
Dinner in the room consists of salad and sushi and some garlic bread and very yummy it is too after some beer, wine Bloody Mary and Bourbon we are soon asleep
Saturday 17th June
We are awake early as we are driving down to Charlevoix to get the ferry to Beaver island,it is a bit overcast at the moment,we arrive in Charlevoix and go to the ferry booking office and find the tickets cost $32.50 each for a one way trip so we decide not to bother as £110 pound for a relatively short ferry ride seems a bit steep and we have breakfast in a little diner where there is a group of older men talking about baseball and frequently saying ****** a word I haven't heard in a good few years probably Trump supporters,we drive further South to Elk lake and stop off there briefly before continuing to Traverse City,a decent sized town where we stop off and go onto the sand beach overlooking Lake Michigan we go back to Petrosky and go into Petrosky State Park which has a stunning sandy beach and we go for a long walk on the lakefront and back,a very pleasant stroll indeed for an hour or two,
Back on Petrosky town we get supplies for dinner and return to the hotel and go back round the pool for a spot of sun and some beer and wine, dinner consists of Shrimp, salad and bread washed down with more beer and wine
Sunday 18th June
We awake to an overcast Harbour Springs and go to hotel reception for breakfast which is very pleasant and becomes an extended one as it absolutely pours down,
A man who looks unbelievably like Spanish Mick trips up the stairs, not unlike the aforementioned Rochester drunk.
The rain stops so we head out in the car to Harbour Springs town and take a few last photos in the now glorious sunshine,it's a quiet town and apart from the congregation leaving church there is barely a soul around.
Heading South we return to Petrosky and have a look around the town and drive to the harbour which is very picturesque with a stunning harbour with a stone walkway out to a lighthouse, continuing with our journey we return on our travels and go back to Charlevoix and park up for a walk around this pretty little town,
We walk down the side of a little inlet with a bridge that lifts to let boats out from the town harbour to the lake, the walk takes us out to another lighthouse and a small pretty sandy beach.
We go back to Petrosky and get supplies for dinner and return one last time to our hotel and sit and have dinner with drinks,Salad, crusty bread and beef followed by blueberry pie,all very yummy
Monday 19th June
We go to breakfast for the last time before heading over to Gladstone Michigan,
The weather is overcast as we head North an cross the Mackinaw Bridge once more with views of Lake Huron on the left and Lake Michigan on the left,we start heading West and follow the North of the lake for most of the journey,we stop at Manistique and visit a gift shop that sells the usual tat,a few miles on we have to stop because of torrential rain,
We reach Our destination of Gladstone Michigan and turn off and go through town without finding where we are staying a few miles on and our hotel The Terrace Bay hotel is on the left,we continue to the next town Escanaba and get some supplies for later,
We return to the hotel and check in,it is in a wonderful position overlooking the lake, our room has two rooms the bedroom and a kitchenette, the view across the lake is stunning from our room.
We have dinner at the hotel restaurant which also has fantastic views out of massive windows out over the lake,
Jackie has the blackened shrimps with rice and I have ribs and chips we follow it with mile high cheesecake it is all lovely and the waitress is lovely, the meal is capped off by a rainbow over the water ,
We go back to the room and have beer, wine and Bourbon
