Monday 19th June to Saturday 24th June
Tuesday 20th June
We wake to rain and go to the hotel restaurant for breakfast and enjoy it with the fantastic view over the lake
We decide to head North to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore State park we arrive in this lakeside town and go to the first port of call which is a lovely waterfall that is a beautiful copper colour,
After taking a few snaps we drive on to the next stop,a lovely little beach area that is virtually deserted.
We carry on up the road and realise that this is definitely a park that needs seeing from the water and we decide to have a leisurely drive back to town with frequents rain showers accompanying us,
On our return we go to Walmart and buy supplies for dinner tonight which is all very nice and once again we have a few drinks and get exceptionally tired and go to bed
Wednesday 21st June
I awake to glorious sunshine and sit out the front of our room with a coffee taking in the wonderful view and listening to the birds singing
We go for breakfast and more of the great views
We head out on a 50 mile drive to Palms book state park and a short walk takes us to a stunning natural spring where we board a raft that takes us slowly over the spring and in the middle you can see to the bottom and the bubbling springs below also we watch loads and loads of huge trout swimming in the crystal clear multi coloured water,it is absolutely amazing and a real unexpected treat out amongst the woods far from anywhere,a lot of midges in this area for the first time on our journey,
We continue on to Fayetteville historical state park which is a ghost town but the majority has been preserved really well and it is quite a fascinating place with the history of the kilns and factories that produced the iron ore many years ago,its lovely just walking round this town.
As we are coming to th final part of this I come over a bit funny and have to get something to eat and have a Yellow Brick Road waffle cone and Jackie has the most fantastic Blueberry waffle Cone, both are amazing.
We head back to the hotel and sit round the pool for a while taking in the sun and the amazing panoramic view before eating in the room,we have Shrimp, rice, soup and spring rolls all on all it isn't the most pleasant dinner we have ever had but the beer, wine and Bourbon more than make up for it
Thursday 22nd June
Today we drive West into Wisconsin and go to Long Slide State Park about 70 miles away it's a nice drive through little towns like Norway and Amberg whilst crossing into Wisconsin from Michigan the park has a stunning winding waterfall with raging copper coloured water winding down to the valley below the path is a bit treacherous to go down any further so we decide to continue down the road to Daves Falls state park and this one is much more accessible with a lovely walk along the river and over a bridge to a series of smal waterfalls it makes for a stunning scene and we take numerous photos in the overcast conditions,we see signs for Green Bay about 50 miles away but decide that the drive back to Gladstone is sufficient for today and we start heading back,
When we get back through various rainstorms it absolutely buckets down for about an hour
We decide to eat at the hotel again and after freshening up and having a couple of drinks we go to the restaurant and Jackie has the Shrimp,Lobster and crab Fettuccine and I have the Steak and Rib combo which is all delicious and washed down with beer and wine
Another lovely day in this beautiful area.
Friday 23rd June
We awake for our last day in Gladstone and have breakfast then drive to Gladstone town where we park up and have a walk around, there is a lovely small marina with a little river running through Van Cleeve park where we see a couple of large fish jumping around,
We walk outbthe lighthouse and the little pier where there are some kids fishing and we watch them catch 3 or 4 small fish, whilst doing this we see a turtle swim to the lake surface and after a short while it speedily swims off to the depths of the water.
After sitting by the lighthouse for a while taking in the sunshine we have a short drive around town then head back to the hotel early as the weather is lovely and we take in some rays by the pool,
It's lovely sitting here for a while reading and observing the incredible views,we're going to miss this when we go to Milwaukee tomorrow
We decide as the restaurant food is so good we will eat there again and we return to the room to have a shower ready for dinner
We return to the restaurant after a couple of drinks in the room and take in the wonderful view of the lake once more,Jackie has spicy Shrimp Tacos and I have Pork Chops with wild rice, both are delicious
For desert I have a seven layer chocolate cake and Jackie has the mile high cheesecake both are fabulous, after paying the bill we return to our room for a last drink and enjoy our final night in Michigan where we have had a great time
