In August 1964 three children went out into the bush to gather broome for their mother's fire. They got lost for 8 days At first the white settlers were able to follow the children's track but after a heavy storm they were no longer able to follow them. One of the settlers called on some local Aboriginal and in particular a man who was nicknamed d*** a d*** , who immediately picked up the children's tracks. The children were found emaciated but alive. The story was published and read my many Victorian School children as it was in the official school reader until the 1960's ( not sure of date - let me know if you know)
d*** a d*** went on to play for the first Aboriginal Cricket Team in 1868 The story of the Aboriginal cricket team can be found in the Harrow Historical Center.
