Historic Information and Description of the Magnificent Whaler's Way by RC Theakstone
Situated 20 miles south west of Port Lincoln, the Whaler's Way are at 34 55 S. Lat, 135 42 E. Long was first sited by the brilliant navigator, Captain Matthew Flinders, in the Collier built ship, Investigator, on the 19th February,1802. At this time Matthew flinders was only 27 years old. he, his crew and ship were to sail on to become the first to circumnavigate Australia - and it was, in fact, at Flinders insistence, the Continent was called Australia.
In 1969 work was commenced to develop the area by Robt Theakstone, and results of this are now seen in the Whaler's way. Whaler's Way, a Flora and Fauna Reserve, was so named because of the close association with whaling operations carried out in the Sleaford Bay, which adjoins the Way
