The day started with a taxi to pier 9 to catch our junk at 10am. A variety of people some Hong Kong regulars & some visitors had assembled to take part in the day activities. Including & old school friend of mine Charlie who had recently moved out to HK, it is a very small world.
Once onboard we had a breakfast of boiled egg sandwiches prepared by Sam the night before. Who had also stocked up on water & beer for the excursion.
Anxiously looking at the sky in the main harbour as drops of rain were briefly felt. Thankfully this proved to be the only bad weather of the day as we were treated to sunshine with a helpful cloud covering from time to time.
We arrived in a Bay after sailing round the island, & began to start the party. The day was spent with a mixture of beers, food & sunbathing.
Later in the afternoon saw people take to the water for banana boating & wake boarding. I along with a number of others stuck to the more serene activity of floating around drinking beer. The current did its best to take us away from the boat so a long swim was involved to get back on board. (This swim would have been made easier had everyone not still had beers, that cud not be left behind!)
To start a vacation the Junk experience could not have been better open water, great weather & drinks a plenty. Even Mr Hansell was engaging in the suntanning & drinking.
After the junk experience which allowed us to meet lots of different people we headed for a meal at Rat Alley.
This small busy street had a number of restaurants, and after Harry's excellent food choices the day before I was happy to let him order a selection of food for the table, that was once again sublime.
All in the party were now feeling the effects of a good meal & a days drinking. That did not stop Harry, Sam & I from having Jelly Shots in the busy street of bars located next to Rat Alley. These shots consumed on a regular basis could lead only to mayhem, but what fun it would be.
Bed was calling after an amazing day, thankfully I had taken Sam's advice & applied sunscreen which meant only my back received a good burn.
I would recommend the Junk experience to all.
