Hola! It´s been a while since I´ve updated this, I´ll blame it on the fact I´ve been having too much fun! So, I spent 3 nights in Montevideo in Uruguay, then another 4 days in Buenos Aires and now I´m in Mendoza enjoying the local vino tinto!
I got the ferry over from BA to Montevideo, I needed to get to a beach again! It was the first time I´d been on my own in months, and it was actually really nice! I met up with a guy I met in Ecuador and we hired bikes and cycled to the beach....really nice, but hard work in 40 degree heat!! I hurried back to Buenos Aires to meet up with Caroline, the girl I lived with in Ecuador, but it didn´t end upworking out! I had a great time though despite that. I met up with my friend from Leeds´ brother (Steve) who lives in BA and he took me out in to the country to an Estancia owned by his wife´s family. It was so nice. We stopped off at local butchers on the way and bought loads of meat....the guy opened the big freezer at the back of the shop and I could see 4 whole cows hanging there....you don´t get butchers like that in England!! We cooked a massive parilla and spent the day by the pool! It was a true Argentine experience! We were right out in the country, so peaceful. A local kid came to the door while we were there selling freshly made empanadas from a hare they´d just shot a couple of hours earlier! The nicest empanadas I´ve ever tasted! The next day I walked around Palermo, such a nice area....was hard to resist all the amazing shops though!! I´ve managed to not lose anything in 3 months, but in the last week I´ve lost 2 tops, one shoe, a bra, and my make up bag?! Maybe I should have allowed myself to go shopping in BA after all!! I met up with Steve again and he took me to a really good pizza place, followed by ice cream.....urghhh I feel sick just thinking about how full I was!! Then he took me to see a bookshop that´s an old converted theatre....again, you don´t get bookshops like that in England!!
I came to Menzoa on Wednesday....after a very cold night bus... the air conditioning definitely worked well!! I´m here with an American guy I met in BA. We spent our first day here relaxing in the park sampling the vino and soaking up the sun, it´s a hard life!! On Thursday we did the number one tourist trip in Mendoza....the wine tour! We decided not to book on to a proper tour but just to hire bikes and do it ourselves, so much better! We hired bikes from Hr Hugo....amazing...if anyone ever goes to Mendoza you must visit Mr Hugo!! We visited a few bodegos, learning about how they make the wine, and sampling it of course! On the way back one of the guys got a flat tyre and a cop stopped to help and gave him a lift back on his motorbike! Then he gave me a ride around the streets just for the hell of it, he must have been bored! When we got back to the bike shop Mr Hugo offered us some wine....I thought it would be one complimentary glass....3 bottles later I realised I was wrong! Great day! Back at the hostel we attempted a parilla....it took 4 guys about 3 hours to get the fire going, and that was with the help of a local! It was worth the wait though! On Friday I went paragliding, really nice and nowhere near as scary as I thought it´d be! The only scary part of it was when I was left at the top of a mountain by myself for 2 HOURS!! They left my flight until the end as apparently it was too windy so they let the heavier people go first...my instructor said he would fly down and be back up in 20 minutes...2 hours later I was getting a bit worried...and pissed off!! All Argentinians should be made to wear watches!! I think he felt bad when he got back and we had an extra long flight to make up for it!! Yesterday we spent the day at the thermal springs...beautiful surroundings....we´d had a really late night the night before though so we couldn´t fully appreciate it!
I´m enjoying my last day in Mendoza now, night bus to Cordoba tonight...
