There have been some twists and turns!
I met a couple from Argentina on the bus after departing from Perhetian Islands. They were going to Koh Tao and from there to Koh Pangan for one of the (in)famous full moon parties and I decided to join! So we crossed the border to Thailand together with them and a German guy David who also joined us. We were gonna take the nighttrain/bus to Surat Thani to be able to take a ferry to Koh Tao, but it turned out there were no more buses or trains after 6pm(?!) so we were stuck there for the inght. Quite a shady place too, known for violence and Malaysian sextourists. Soldiers walking around with rifles. Lucky I wasn't alone in this case!
Early in the morning we took a train towards Surat Thani. It was really cheap, 86 baht (2+euros) and it was supposed to take 10 hours. It took 15. And it was 3rd class, wooden seats, not too comfy. Soldiers waking back and forth again. And no lights so after sunset it got really dark. But at least it wasn't very crowded, most of the way at least. We finally arrived in Surat Thani at about 8.30pm. Bought tickets to the nightferry to Koh Tao, 8 more hours btw, and got some food. The nightferry was quite cool though, we slept on mattresses they had covered the whole floor with. Was so good to lie down! And I felt a little bit like being in a pirate ship:)
So just arrived in Koh Tao, after more than 24 hours of traveling, and we're takling another ferry soon to Koh Pangan to meet friends and prepare for the party. Should be cool! And the islands should be less packed after.
