I ended up staing one more night in Bangkok. The Overstay was just too cool to leave! So I took a nighttrain to Chiang Mai on, um, monday night. It was 15 hours of 3rd class again but it was fine, I managed to sleep ok. Didn't find any couchsurfers who were actually in town so I checked in a hostel.
Btw Chiang Mai is surprisingly touristic. The nightmarket it's only build for them (or us), on a street where they've got McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Starbucks. I thought it would be quieter in the north of Thailand. Oh well. It's quite beautiful though, and I'm happy to be in a smaller town again.
Lately I've got tired of going around seeing all the sights and everything. I know there's a chance I'll regret it later but right now I just can't be bothered. All I've done is walk around a bit, seen some random temples and markets, and then hung out at the hostel. I've met some pretty awesome people, too bad we're all going different ways though. Oh well I might see some of them in Pai, some in Laos, some in Vietnam. Another thing is, everyone is renting or buying motorbikes and going around with them. Makes me wanna do it, too! Would have to learn to ride one first. I only tried once in lake Toba and it was quite a disaster:P
The Chinese new year was just the other night and there was absolutely nothing happening in here. 2 fireworks 15 minutes before midnight and that was it. Empty clubs. But I was in good company though so who cares.
One thing I wanted to do here is go to the Tiger Kindom, where I could have played with tigers. First I was gonna go to the tiger temple in Katchanaburi close to Bangkok, but I heard it's a really big tourist business and the tigers are definitely drugged, just lying around for tourists to take pictures with. I definitely do not wanna support that. I heard the place here was supposed to be better, but then in the end how can it be possible for tourists to play around with tigers if they're not drugged? They can't risk people's heads being chewed off. I would have loved to play with tigers but in the end I love tigers too much to go there and give my money for that kind of business.
I'm taking a bus to Pai in 2 hours and try to get a bit more active there. I also hope it's more oriental than Chiang Mai. Otherwise, I have Laos,
