Hey everyone!!
I have now been in New Zealand for the past week and am having an amazing time. I met my group in Auckland and they are all really lovelly. We headed straight off to Rotorua where we were staying in one of the Maori Maraes. When we got there we had to go through their whole traditional way of welcoming people and had to sing the chief a song to show our solidarity as a group! We did heads shoulders knees and toes in Maori!! Well, we attempted... lol!! It was really interesting staying at the Marae and learnt a lot about how they live and what they believe.
The next day we went further into Rotorua and visited some of the natural hot springs. Was pretty cool how there was all these random patches with really hot steam coming out of the ground!! Afetr we had a bit of a look round a group of us went white water rafting - it was soo much fun!!! At one point we went down a 7m waterfall and our raft was pretty much vertical!!! The water was so cold though, even though we did have fleeces on under our wetsuits!! When we were stopped at a point where it was really calm some people went in for a swim, I was happily sat in my raft when the guy in the kayak who was meant to be rescuing us if we needed it pulled me backwards out of the raft!!! He asked if I wanted a ride so I clung onto the back of his kayak and we went down some of the rapids like that!! So much fun!! I fell off though at one point and he had to come and paddle after me because the strong current was dragging me away!! At the end of teh rfting we went cliff jumping into the river!! :)
After the rafting we went over to Hells Gate where we got thoroughly pampered! We had some mud baths and then went and chilled out in one of the thermal spas! So nice! We were even more spoilt at our hotel because we had hot tubs in each room!! Spent that evening all in the hot tubs with some glasses of wine!! V nice!
Next we headed down to Wellington where we would be getting the ferry over to the south island from. We got there in the afternoon and had a bit of a wander around town. In the evening most of us went out for dinner and then went bowling. It was ladies night as well so all the girls got half price cocktails!! :) After bowling we went out round Wellington, was a good night but was a bit quiet as it was mid week. The next morning we did a bit of a city tour and went for a look around the museum which was quite good. In the afternoon we had to get the ferry which took about 3 hours!! Was ok though and as we were getting close we saw some dolphins swimming nearby the ferry!!
