We left Fraser Island early the next morning and hit the road again. We drove further down south and got to Brisbane around lunch time. We got to stop here for about 3 hours which was nice. We got some lunch and did a bit shopping - I was quite restrained compared to some of teh girls and just got a new bag. We walked down to South Bank on the river and saw that they had like a mini london eye. We had some time so decided to go on it, it was quite good as could see over the city a bit, it went quite quick though and we ended up going round 5 times!!
Back on the bus we drove a bit further down to Surfers Paradise. We were staying in quite a nice hotel here and our balcony had a nice view over the river. We had a bit of time to chill out in the room before going out for dinner. No one was up for much of a big night so we all headed down to the bowling alley and had a couple of games. I did quite badly on the first game but made a bit of a come back in the 2nd! In the morning we had a few hours before we were heading down to Byron Bay so we went out for a little explore. We went round a few of teh shops and I found a nice new bikini. :) We got down to the beach and went down to take a few piccys. I was having a picture taken stood just in the sea (the water was barely around my ankles) when all of a sudden a massive wave came which came all the way up to my bum!! Have no idea where it came from!! I was soaked and the other girls had been too busy laughing at me to move out the way quick enough so they got quite wet as well!!!
It wasn't a very long drive to Byron Bay, only 1.5hours or so. We stopped up at the lighthouse which had views all over the bay and was also Australias most Westernly point. On the bus we signed up for some extra activities for the next day, I signed up for skydiving and surf lessons. Though when we got back on the bus Adam (our leader) said that we could do the skydiving that afternoon as it wa a nice day and would leave us more time the next day. We were all up for it so we went and dropped our stuff off at our lodge and were picked up to go to the drop zone. 4 of us were doing and one of the boys came to watch. The jump was 14,000ft and we jumped out over the sea and came over the bay. When we were going up in the plane we could see whales jumping out of the sea which was really cool! I was the 3rd person to jump and it was so much fun, as we jumped out we went through a cloud and then could see the bay so clearly when we came out the other side. We freefell for around 45 seconds, a lot longer than on my last jump which was only 10,000 ft! When we put the parachute up my instructor pointed out a few things to me and let me steer the parachute. He seemed to like spinnign around and kept spinning us round in circles! It was really cool as when we looked out to sea we could see a rainbow and when we looked back into land we could see a storm in the distance. The whole jump was so much fun and everyone had such a buzz after it. We all got pictures and dvds so waited for them to be put together and then went back to our lodge.
That evening we all went out to dinner in what used to be the old railway station. Afterwards me and one of the girls wandered down to the sea and sat on the rocks for a bit. It was really good as while we were looking at the sea the moon came up and looked like a big orange balloon coming out of the sea!! We then went back to the bar and met some of the others in a club called Cheeky Monkeys. It was a bit of a weird club, there was no dance floors, just a load of metal picnic benches that everyone was danceing on!!
The next morning a load of us had signed up for surfing lessons. We wandered down to the surf school where we got suited up and driven down to the beach. We had to carry our boards down to the beach and then were told to go and get wet. I was walking down to the sea when all of a sudden I was over one of the lads shoulders, who ran into the sea and dropped me in it!! One way to get wet I guess!! We spent a little while learning some of the techniques whilst on the beach and then when we kind of knew what we were doing we headed into the water. To start off with we were just catching waves and stayed laying down on the boards, just pushing ourselves up on our arms. Managed to this OK and got too the beach all of the times without falling off. We then went back on the beach to learn how to stand up. We were shown the steps and tried them out a few times - must have looked quite funny for people watching! Soon it was time to try out our skills in the sea. Our instructor was good and held onto our boards and gave us a little push when the waves came so we didn't have to worry about paddling. I managed to stand up a few times, maybe not for that long before I fell off but definately got up!! By the time we were done we were all shattered - the current was so strong it took a lot of effort to get out into the sea and stay there!
Had quite an easy afternoon, just went for some lunch and then wandered round the shops helping one of the lads look for a birthday presents for his mate. In the evening some of the guys were going out for drinks but we were stilla bit knackered so me and the girls just went and got a pizza and some wine and had a girly night in instead.
