Good Day from Oz :)
So the plane trip back to Bangkok was all good except for a slight hiccup at security with Hanna trying to smuggle a pen knife through in hand luggage and Hannah being accused for having 'a meal' in her bag..... a can of mackeral yummy!! Once in Bangkok we let the rebels inside us out and went and got piercings, so Hannah now comes with a very stylish red nose stud and Hanna with a small lip bar.
From Bangkok we travelled south to Ko Samui island where the weather was absolutely CRAP! With nothing to do we decided to risk our lives and hire a moped for the day. Hanna as designated driver had a first time practise and after making friends with a bush a few times kind of got the hang of it and we were soon off ruling the roads of Ko Samui and checking out what it had to offer.
With the count down to July's full moon seriously underway we joined the backpackers mass migration to Ko Phangan for the Full Moon party :) After arriving we had a briefing by David, the crazy french man who owned our hostel, and the 'warm up' 2 nights before full moon were spent consuming many buckets with large quantities of thai whisky and M150 (a thai version of red bull with something along the lines of speed as an added extra)... start as you mean to go on right?!? Full moon night... we joined 20 000 people in painting oursleves in many colours of fluorescent paint and heading down to the beach to PARTY until the sun came up... quite epic!! Now nocturnal by nature and in serious need for a rest we said goodbye to the great friends we made caught a boat to Ko Tao.
So with no rest for the wicked we began our Open Water Diving course on Ko Tao with an afternoon and morning in a classroom learning some diving theory.... we both concluded we hate classrooms or anything that reminds of school!!! After 'school' we took to the pool for a practise and then to sea.... AMAZING!! we saw nemo!!! Having caught the diving bug we couldn't leave and also did our Advanced Diving Course.... so we will be coming home Advanced Open Water divers :)
Back to mainland Thailand we ventured across to Krabi and stayed at a place called Railay only accessible by boat... quite a site. With weather not being so great the one day the sun was out we as typical british wanted every sunray going.... resulting in Hannah having a rather burnt and blistered arse... ouch! From Railay we went to Phuket which in one word was poop!
After leaving Phuket we were back on a boat to Ko Phi Phi home of "The Beach". Here you begin to admire the thai people with there recovery from the Tsunami that killed many and the evidence of which is still all over the islands affected. Joined a group of people for a tour of the island and surrounding islands on a small long tailed boat. The day started off very calm with only a few jellyfish stopping us from snorkelling at some places. The day soon became a very wet adventure through rough seas on a small boat... with the 2 of us and another couple trying desperately to keep morale high (the couple were teachers). Failed with everyone except us 4. Visted Monkey Bay were we saw all the monleys on the beach, but more exciting was when a girl got bit by a monkey. She was adsvised by many to go and get Rabies injections. Last stop of the day was Maya Bay the famous beach from the film "The Beach". After being dropped off, swimming/drowning in waves to some ladders, Hanna being attacked by some fish for her infected mozzy bites and clambering sharp coral (which we are pretty sure Leonardo DiCapprio did not have to do whilst filming) we finally made it to the spectacular site of Maya Bay :) were we saw monkey bite girl... obviously not bothered by the fact she may soon be frothing at the mouth!!
Last stop of Thailand was Ko Lanta. Spent a few days chilling by a pool with a new friend Tim before heading to Malaysia. Travelling through the day we made it to Penang island. Spent a few days exploring the island with not alot of luck on our side. Penang hill was closed... how can a hill be closed?!? and our spectacular bus skills got us nearly to the beach... but not quite. Went inland to the Cameroon Highlands, were we expected a basic quite rural stay but they had Starbucks!! After exploring the highlands and spending quite a bit on frappuchinios we took the very windy journey to Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia's capital. Kuala Lumpur, was a hub of activity with many shopping malls. Hannah purchased a brand spanking new camera and we explored the city. Took a night trip to the Petronas Twin Towers to view the city lights by night. After leaving the twin towers we made our way to the main road to catch the bus back only to have a monkey jump up on Hanna's shoulder. Unsure of what to do and attracting quite a few stares from passing people we headed back to the towers security guards with a monkey jumping from shoulder to shoulder. Was so cute! Finally got rid out it when jumping into a taxi and driving away.
Last stop of Malaysia was Melakka. Took advantage of Ramadan currently going on with some good indian dinners. Howard, the hostel owner, took us on a little bike ride of the area. We came across a factory outlet shop and caved in and bought some clothes after getting SOOOO bored of our clothes!!!
Last country of SE Asia found us entering Singapore. Browsed Orchard Road.... a shoppers paradise! Purchased some final souveneirs and gifts and finally sent the hold all bag we have been dragging over SE Asia home... woo!!!! Made a trip over to Sentosa Island home of Singapore's Universal Studios.... with lack of money we didn't go in and walked round the island. So with SE Asia nearly over how best to celebrate??? With a Swensens All-You-Can-Eat dessert buffet and a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel (now named Raphaels Hotel by Hanna... it sounds so much better!). So this All-You-Can dessert buffet was just as amazing as you can imagine one to be. With various cakes, ice creams, white choclate fountain, waffles, pancakes and all the sauces imaginable we left the place feeling quite sick!
After 3 months in SE Asia it was time to pack up our rucksacks AGAIN and board a plane to Cairns, Australia. After an overnight flight and practically no sleep due to middle of the night stop over in Darwin we arrived early at our hostel. We soon began the hunt for some wheels that would become our home for the next 2 months. Waking up the next morning it soon became clear Hanna was not too good. So whilst walking from hostel hostel looking for car advertisements Hanna was popping all flu pills (codeine preferable) possible to keep her going. Have been a bit unlucky with a few cars after they were sold quick. Not getting any better we were back in a doctors :( After paying $70 to see the doctor Hanna was sent away with a Pathology blood test form with many SE Asian virus blood test requests listed coming to a grand total of $485!!!! Thank god for travel insurance. So now we wait and see....
So after viewing a few cars we have decided to rent a Hippie Camper instead :) So we will be beginning our East Coast road trip tomorrow!!!! Fun Fun!
Just another 2month wait for the next post were we will inform you of our Ozzy adventures :D
Love you all lots
