Hannah's Great Adventure
As my trip fast approaches the end I'll take this opportunity to tell you all about the mad dash to the end.
Having left Cusco, Carolin and I headed for the Ancient Kingdom that is Machu Picchu. We were determined to be on the first bus up, so determined that we didn't notice the sign saying 'last chance to buy you entrance ticket' (yes, it was even in English), so I had to plea with the lady in the entrance booth (at 5.30am) to allow us to buy them there - very embarrassing! She made us 'sweat it out' for about 30 minutes before eventually giving in - I'm sure she was enjoying watching all the American Tourists laughing at us. Upon entrance we immediately found a place to sit and watch the sunrise (and eat breakfast). It was utterly beautiful. Machu Picchu has to be the highlight of my South American experience. To think that the Inca's built such a fantastic (and technologically advanced) civilisation whilst hiding from the Spanish in the 14th Century - it's breathtaking. Words can't describe how it makes you feel - everyone MUST visit Machu Picchu!! After the sunrise we decided to climb the mountain directly behind the ruins - Waynapicchu. It was a long hard slog getting up, but well worth it as the views were out of this world - check out the photo's. At the top of Waynapicchu are more Inca ruins that are equally impressive as the city itself. Built (and still standing) on a shear cliff face.
Following Machu Picchu we spent another night in Cusco - Friday night, which ultimately meant going out partying with the locals - well there were probably more gringos, but never mind. The following evening (plenty of time to get over my hangover) I said farewell to Carolin and caught the over-night bus to Ica - expecting a beautiful 'Oasis' in the middle of the desert, the reality was a building site full of Israeli's in the middle of the desert! I arrived in a fowl mood and with a thumping headache, have suffered 13 hours on a stuffy bus without a toilet, which progressively got worse as the volume on the sound system went up - goan trance, come on!!
This morning I checked out of that 'whole' and completed my final bus journey - yipee!! - to Lima.
So now I'm in Lima, and Lima is where i'll stay until I checkout on Thursday - TO FLY HOME!! I'm so excited. Mum, you know when I used to make myself ill before my birthday party's because I got so excited, think that but a million time worse!!
Can't wait to see you all, be home (hopefully) in 3 days!!
