Hannah's Great Adventure
Dear All
So here I am in Santiago. What was I thinking?
I arrived yesterday very excited, although slightly disorientated having gone back in time by 16 hours, yes I'm behind you all now.
For the first time on my trip I'm completely by myself, no trusty 'Greyhound', where your guaranteed to meet people if you like it or not. I half expected to be surrounded by fellow travelers at the Hostel, but no such luck as I'm the only person staying here - seriously! I planned to move to the YHA this morning but was greeted downstairs with a beautifully presented breakfast spread, that I ate alone whilst the way 'too' friendly staff watched and talked amongst themselves in spanish. Not being able to speak a word of the worlds second most spoken language is quite a problem here - who'd of thought it! I'm such an idiot! My phrase book has come in very handy. The first hurdle this morning was trying to catch the metro into town - I proceeded to crash and burn, landing in a very unladylike heap on the floor. Well, I actually just gave up and walked the whole 20 blocks into town. However I did manage to negotiate buying a coach ticket, I leave on friday for La Serena. And I also managed to find a adaptor, that's another story all together, I'll just say that I'm finding illustrations very helpful (I knew my A'Level Art would come in handy one day).
God help me, I'm the ignorant English person once again. I am now more determined than ever to take up French again when I return.
Anyway, at least the sun is shining and I'm absolutely loving the classical architecture. Some 'history'at last, no more of the Australian attitude that anything built pre 1950 is classed as history.
I'll keep you all informed,
Lot's of love xxx
