so the last few sessions at camp went amazingly well. session 5 was sweet as - we had tala back in our unit which was awesome and we had some amazing campers. stayed with robin in the break between session 5 and 6 and went to saturday market in portland andto some other shops. woo! session 6 was awesome too! aside from my little outburst at the beginning of the session - we dont need to get into that! the jhighlight was designing a little fairy basied unit activity for my campers. basically there is a fairy song pan invented at camp so i designed and made all the props for it and put them under the LC building and got the kids to play tehre, make fairy wands and pick berrys (to put in their potions!) we put them to 'bed' early - ie had them get changed then had mugo blow a massive horn (so the kids thought it was a tsunami - whoops!) and then follow the horn to rodents cove where we had coloured popcorn, 'their' berry potions and music. we threw glowsticks in the air so when they arrived it looked like little fairies. it was so cute! campout was awesome - katja and i had the little 4yr old schminks so it was sweet as! they are so funny! we finished camp last Thursday and a few of us went to stay with Maddy in Portland. had an awesome couple of days there just chilling out. got to meet up with an old friend who was at camp two years ago which was really good. and we had a final barbecue at hers on Friday night which most people were at. definately a good idea as it was much easier to say bye to people when you have a glass of wine in you! so saturday night Katja and I boarded a 10pm bus bound for San Francisco. 12 hours later we were still on the bus. infact it took 15hours to get there - boo. we arrived just after1pm and got ourselves to the hostel. spent sunday afternoon looking around union square (and the amazing shops) and chinatown (and going to a bookstore as my child obsession with 'the boxcar children' has formed again!) we were absolutely exhausted and slept for ages sunday night (13 hours? i think so!) monday morning we headed out of the hostel and walked our way over to the coit tower - its meant to represent a fire hose thing and that represents all the firemen who helped in the massive earthquake in 1906. after hiking up that mountain we hiked down to pier 33 to get our tickets for Alcatraz the next day. It was a steep walk down and there were loads of cute little houses (actually pretty big) with amazing views. jealous. Then made our way over to pier 39 which is pretty awesome. there is loads of stuff going on here - loads of shops (including an NFL shop where i spent ages contemplating whether or not my parents would kill me for buying another seattle seahawks jersey (dont worry mum i didnt!). so i would like to formerly announce that yesterday was actually known as my day of free things. so we went to this little place to get some dinner. i asked for a shrimp coctail and some sourdough bread and katja had a hamburger. they decided to give me a clam chowder in a sourdough bowl thing. so i was like - hmmm i just wanted sourdough without the clam chowder (didnt want to get allergic or anything!) so they said 'ok have that anyway and heres some sourdough and we wont charge you for either.' sweet. i know its late in the story but we also managed to score a free tram ride past chinatown earlier in the day. wooo. so after lunch we went to see the seals off pier 39 - im not even kidding - there are hundreds. no joke. all headbutting each other to get off their raft. very protective creatures! then we kept walking down towards fishermans wharf and up to lombard street to see the crookedest street in the world. sweet. it was pretty awesome and involved a hike. enough said. so he hiked back down through russian hill to fort mason park and then along the marina way before heading up to union street to check out the shops. we then got a tram (paid for it this time) down to valencia street where we were told there was loads of vintage shops...we found out there was one....and it was pretty much just costume stuff - no joke there were circus outfits and everything! so we got back to the hostel and had some dinner, read some stuff, got two for one dr peppers from the drink machine - wooo!, and had an early night. today we were up early to hike ourselves over to pier 33 again to get our ferry to alcatraz. it was a pretty sweet time on the island let me tell you. i basically went thinking i would see a pretty legendary prison but found it was an old army base and the actual wildlife and scenery on the island is amazing. and that whole families used to live there when the prison was running. aaaaaaaaa! however, there are loads of birds and if they arent your favourite species its probably best to steer clear! after this we headed back, had lunch at fishermans wharf then hiked back to our hostel. had a nice little nap then went to the bookstore so i could buy another boxcar children book and headed to get some thai food (yes im still obsessed with pad thai! aaaaaaa! tomorrow we are heading over to haight ashbury (ie hippy central) and golden gate park then getting an overnight bus down to star central - LA. so i can hang out with johnny depp and orlando bloom and party with lindsay lohan and paris hilton (mom - thats a joke. dont worry im not gonna go insane like paris hilton and lindsay lohan...mwahahaha!)
