Hi from Bangkok!!!
Our first day travelling and already we have probs been scammed, asked if we want "playboy" and taken everywhere by man in a tuk tuk....all these things we tried not to do...but o well haha!!!
This morning after a very nice sleep in an air conditioned room (which is definatly going to be a must) we ventured out into the craziness that is Bangkok! After walking about 5 steps out the hostel many thai men in tuk tuks try to take you everywhere so we are learning quick to say no! However after looking a bit lost a really helpful thai teacher pointed us the way to a boat tour run by the thai ppl and not the tourist government ppl...he was persistent in telling us that the tourist boat tour would cost us more money (he was probably right with that) so after he picked a leaf off the nearest tree and wrote directions down for us on the leaf we headed to this boat tour which was actually an eye opener!!! It was along the river and we saw where thai ppl live in houses on stilts right next to sewage pipes. The tour ended at the grand palace however that was closed for lunch so we then ended up being persuaded by a tuk tuk driver to go and see the 45m golden budha which was good however along the way we got roped into going to a tailored suit shop where they try and sell you suits, after persistently saying no to the suits the guy in the shop then offered us "playboy" in the room upstairs with free drinks and satisfaction!!! ( even tho the guy was actually being serious me and amy found it hilarious)! so we left quickly! The tuk tuk guy then took us to a tourist info place (hopefully we aint got scammed) but we ended up booking our bus to cambodia siem reap, the bus is meant to pick us up at our hostel...so we will see!!! When we eventually got to the Grand Palace it was beautiful and quite tranquil and nice to just walk around without ppl hassling us! All in all had a great first day, off out tonight but no plan as yet!....tomorrow we are going to try not to get hassled by the tuk tuk men!! x
