Byron Bay. What a place. I absolutely loved it even if I was really poorly and it rained EVERY single day.
We got there in the evening and decided to take a walk along the beautiful beach. The ocean and the beach looked gorgeous as did the lighthouse which over looked them both. However, it started to really CHUCK it down halfway down the beach and we had to take shelter under a leafy tree. We managed to make it to the most Easternly point of Australia before legging it back to the hostel.
We were staying in a YHA which was lovely and our four bed dorm was quite spacious and near the communal bathrooms. Now, I don't mean to sound like my Dad but I really don't like those communal bathrooms. I know they are all part and parcel of being a traveller but it gets quite tiring to constantly shower in a swimming baths style shower room. I'm lucky i've not got verrucas. Anyhow, apart from that the YHA was highly satisfactory just is not really a wet weather kind of hostel.
That night we decided to go out to the local bar and have some cheap food and some cheap drinks! After all the bar games, the tables were turned into platforms for everyone to dance on. We danced the night away before retiring back to the hostel.
The next day, I was woke up to the lurgy and a hangover, I must admit I looked pretty scary. We attempted a trip to the lighthouse but was rained off. On the upside, Steve made Kim and I a fry up to make us feel better.
That night the lurgy had infected me to so much that I could not go out again. However, I managed to stay awake long enough to skype Mum and Beardface before tucking myself up in bed. Luckily, we had no new room mates today for me to infect.
The next day our 'kayaking with dolphins' trip was cancelled due to wet weather so Kim and I decided to go to the cinema. We saw 'The Help' which was just amazing!! I seriously recommend everyone to go see it and definately read the book.
That night, Kim and I cooked our tea and a kind irish couple gave us a bottle of wine! Then, Steve, Kim, Aron, Shane and I stayed in the hostel with pizzas watching Fat Boy Run.
I was gutted that I didn't get to see Byron Bay properly as it was the place I was looking forward to the most. From what I saw, it was really chilled and beautiful. I hope I can one day revisit!!
to be continued..
