Kota Kinabalu was our first stop in Malaysian Borneo. There wasn't much to do there really but it's the main entry point into Sabah which is the eastern region of Borneo and we mostly used our time there for planning the next few weeks. The city itself was modern and clean but not the sort of place for tourists. The only thing of interest we actually did was visit the fish market where there was lots of interesting sights and smells.
We ended up staying in our first dorm room here as room prices in Malaysia seemed to be twice that of Thailand and Vietnam. We did not like the experience! Someone in our room absolutely stank and the fans were so noisy it was difficult to sleep. We'll pay the extra for our own bed from now on I think.
The other thing we immediately noticed in Malaysia was that everyone spoke excellent English and drove quite sensibly on the roads... something which they definitely didn't do in Vietnam! The food was also very cheap but the beer was ludicrously expensive... Suppose that makes up for the 30p beer we could get in Vietnam!
Sorry no photos for this one!
