SO! its been a month since my last blog....im too lazy to actually write these so i apologise!!!
heres a run down of whats been going on since sydney - as brief as possible!!!
so we left sydney about the 12th sept i guess then flew to ayers rock - ate us some kangaroo, checked out Uluru at sunrise and trekked around it - we could have walked up it but the aboriginies arent too keen on tourists doing that as its their sacred land so we decided not too. plus its a ery steep climb and it was pretty hot. so we walked around it then caught a bus to alice springs where we stayed for a couple of days. pretty relaxing time there really - the bites o acquired in the cook islands reappeared though so i had to deal with that again - and had the 10th diagnosis of what they were (apparantly i had ringworm. incorrect. as you will find otu in a bit).
so after alice we flew to darwin and stayed for 3 days. drunk a little bit too much wine, met some crocodiles, held a baby one, had the worst english breakfast in the world and finally got myself to a doctors to check out these bites who informed me to never listen to pharmacists again and they were just very infected so i was on some lovely antibiotics for a while. great.
after darwin - quick bus trip down to katherine where we stayed at the queen of all hillbilly hostels. which was also one of the most expensive places yet. ants LITERALLY everywhere. spiders all over our room. and sweltering heat. the aboriginals i felt were not very friendly here - met some really friendly ones later on but felt these were very hostile. anyway, did a day trip to the katherine gorges - good fun - saw some crocodiles = swam in the gorges - on the opposite side of the river from crocodile nesting zones - apparantly it was safe. and they were only freshwater and it was the dry season and the water is too low for the saltwater crocs to get here....aspparantly...yet they still had saltwater crocodile catching cages everywhere......hmm.
then went to kununurra for 24 hours - as we were going to be unable to m,ake it to the actual bungle bungles we went to check out the 'mini bungle bungles' - pretty cool.far too much walking in excessive heat for my liking though!
then a stupidly long overnight bus trip to derby. stayed here for 2 days and did a trip to the windjana gorge and tunnel creek. absolutely amazing. they were formed millions of years ago when that part of australia was still underwater and are part of the devonian reef gorges. saw loads of freshies (crocs) at windjana and loads of bats and an albino croc at tunnel creek!
after derby we headed to broome for 3 days where we spent the majority of the time lying by the pool, working on our tans and dancing to tunes on the old juke box! town beach was not worth the trip but cable beach was pretty cool. we also went to sun pictures which is the oldest running outdoor cinema in the world.
after broome we partook in a gruelling 19 hour bus trip to coral bay by the ningaloo reef with the intention of snorkelling the reef and swimming with some manta rays (coral bay is one of two places in the entire world that has a constant manta ray population - the other is in california). unfortunately however, the wind was too strong so it was called off....it also fell on the same day as the Aussie Rules Football Final - which im sure in no way influenced their decision....
after coral bay we headed down to carnarvon for the night as we couldnt go direct to our next stop (greyhound busses only run on certain days down the coast). so we checked into a nice hotel and slept loads and watched tv the rest of the day!. the next morning we were up bright and early and got to denham. didnt do much there - did a trip to monkey mia to check out the dolphins and other than that just hung out by the pool in our hostel. i wasnt particularly well here though so activities were very limited! quite a cool place to be but very small.
then headed to perth - word of warning to anyone going to perth - book your accommodation in advance - i called EVERY hostel in the book and finally found space in one. very lucky. first night got an early night. saturday we went to the museum of western australia then out in the evening for a few bevvies. perth seems to be very drinking focussed downtown on the weekends and the bars are constantly rammed - seriously - the next morning - the bars were busy the moment they opened. infact liv went back to them on the sunday whereas i decided to give the old liver a break and sort out some stuff in the centre.
the next morning we went over to val and tims (liv was not feeling particularly good it has to be said...think it was the jagerbombs that were consumed! so she had people making a lot of fun of her all day) so monday - tim showed us the beaches up the coast - far too windy to stay long - then did some washing and had an early night. tuesday - we had fun at the thai embassy trying to sort out our visas so that was a bit of a write off day. wednesday liv and i went on a wine tasting tour in the swan valley....not a very clever idea i tell you.....continuous wine and even more cheese! we then headed to vals art exhibition opening evening and had even more wine and cheese so were feeling particularly full by the end of the day....so collapsed when we got back and slept for about 12 hours. finished off some washing on thursday then val cooked us some more food which was SOOOOO good then we got our flight to singapore.
good flight...complete with singapore slings...and newly purchased ugg boots - not really that appropriate when one is flying to asia...
singapore was hot. couldnt expect much else really. went to changi prison museum again and then took a walk around downtown singapore before heading back to the airport. and catching our flight to koh samui.
saturday we just chilled out then ended up in a sports bar where tequila sunrises were plentiful and i have to say that i spent most of sunday in bed....not suer if the tequila sunrise was to blame or the seafood i ate for dinner...or a combination of the two....lack of sleep probably didnt help but oh well. we planned to go to Ang Thong National Marine Park today but unfortunately there was a nice storm during the night and we didnt really want to risk going and having the water all churned up so we couldnt see anything when snorkelling. so we are going tomorrow now instead. up early for that and then we are heading to koh phagnan for the full moon party where we will be until 6am......we have the outfits all planned and its going to be tres fun!....and no more tequila sunrises....liv is such a bad influence on me!
anyway - thats a month as brief as i could write it so as not to bore people! but hey ho. in koh samui now - staying in Mae Nam on the north of the island - same [place i was in last year and im loving it - cant explain how much i love this village - its just a part of thailand that doesnt really seem to change that much - unlike the tourist beaches of chaweng and lamai. everyone is so friendly here and leaving will not be fun!
anyway best be off,
ta!
