Okay massive update...again
We spent our last couple of weeks in Melbourne where we stayed in St Kilda in a very lively hostel! We went to an Aussie Rules Football game, which was awesome! We met up with Bronwen and she took us winetasting to the Yarra Valley. We also went to the Neighbours night (where we got to watch Dr Karl play in his band!) and we visited the neighbours set with our friends Holly and Emma who we met on the Oz bus. One of the best trips was to Philip Island where we watched the Penguin Parade in the dark!
We then flew to Fiji. On our first evening we went horseriding along the beach at sunset and then the next day we went to the little island of Waya Lai Lai. The Fijians were very welcoming. They fed us lots and put on shows for us (and then they taught us the Bula dance)! On the first morning on the island we did a sunrise hike. We also visited the local school where the children showed us the work they were doing.
Fiji was really fantastic, the worst part was waking up to someone saying; "Look at the size of that spider..." There was a massive spider INSIDE someone's mosquito net, luckily he was down the other end! No one went to sleep that night, every so often you would see someone's phone or ipod light on in their bed checking the spider hadn't come back!
Certain phrases a pilot should be trained to avoid:
Number 1: "The plane has run out of..." (massive pause) "...immigration cards" We just looked at eachother, a little concerned because we were on the most turbulent flight ever and thought he was going to say fuel!
We then got to Los Angeles just over a week ago! At the airport the staff were wearing masks and gloves - avoiding the swine flu! We then headed to Orbit Hostel on Melrose Avenue. On our first full day we went on the Hollywood tour where we saw the Hollywood sign, Walk of Fame, various Celebrity homes, Santa Monica and Venice Beach.
We then headed upto San Francisco where we went to Alcatraz, saw the Golden Gate Bridge and Lombard Street (the crookedest street)!! We got up there on the overnight Greyhound (not the safest way, exconvicts given free greyhound passes) but it makes another travel tale.
Back in Los Angeles we made plans to go to Las Vegas with the guys from Nottingham...
We are in Las Vegas now. The boys are staying at the MGM Grand, we were staying Downtown in a hostel but moved this morning! Last night we went out to the casinos and had to get the bus back to our hostel. The woman at the casino table in Caesar's Palace was telling us not to get a bus and not to go downtown but we thought we'd be fine (we have stayed in plenty of dodgy areas!) We got on the bus and then were dropped off at the bus station. The security guy dropped us back to the hostel because he didnt think we should be waiting there for another bus at three in the morning!
We are now staying at lovely Excalibur on the strip (which turns out to be about $5 more a night). It is brilliant to have a double bed to myself again!
