The hostel is realy nice and the staff are friendly but the room is a little unusual. Our room, well none of the rooms actually have ceilings. I'm sure there is a roof on the building somewhere but all we have covering the top of our room is a large peice of fabric - possibly an old curtain. It stretches over the other rooms too so needless to say it's not very sound proof! We have to whisper like mice but we keep forgetting and laughing very loudly! We don't have aircon but we have a fan, it's actually so powerful I had to sleep in a hoody I was so cold!! Never thought I'd feel the cold again out here! The hostel also has a house cat which is so cute, of course not cuter than Jacko but she lies on a chase lounge and they have a little sign next to her saying 'do not disturb having a snooze' how sweet!!
So yesterday we went sightseeing, first stop was the Menara Tower which is in the picture, it's absolutely massive and quite scary when you look up it. After that we walked to the famous Petronas Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world. which are huge much bigger than you expect them to be, it takes quite a while to walk around them. There's a mall underneath - Suria KLCC filled with designer boutiques, we looked at Chanel, Gucci, Prada. We looked far too manky and sweaty to go inside though, they might not have let us in! Outside the mall we went to these big gardens KLCC park, which had loads of fountains and pools. We were so hot trying to adjust to the humidity we went to seek out some shade under the trees when a chinese woman approached us. We thought she wanted us to take a picture of her and her friends but what she actually wanted a picture with us! We must have looked so pale because alot of people have been staring. We have hardly seen any tourists and there's only a couple of English people in our hostel.
We decided to get the monorail to this other mall across town to go to eat at this place called Outback. We got our ticket ok, very cheap only 30p!! Would have cost about 10 times that to go the same distance on the tube! It was only when we looked at the map inside that we realised we were going in the total wrong direction! So we had to get off and walk round the other side, just missing it! It was so busy and people just walk right into you also stare. Finally we made it and went to get food, it was so nice to sit in the aircon for a while and relax! We made our way back to the hostel after that and got ready.
Once it was dark we went back to the Menara Tower and went up it. There's an express lift to the top where there's an observation deck. The view from the top is amazing the whole city is lit up and the view of the Petronas Towers is really good. You got a free donkey ride with the ticket, but we saw the donkey when we came out pulling this carriage and it looked absolutely knackard! So we decided not to inflict any more pain on it! We took a few snaps and made our way back down. We went back again to the Petronas towers and took some more pics they looked really good lit up. We went for drinks in this bar called Rum Jungle, alcohol here is really expensive, it costs the same as a meal, but still cheap compared to home. The bar was blaring bon jovi and other 80's power ballads, inside above the bar was a fish tank, spanning the whole length of the bar containing mini sharks. We were concerned that they might not like bon jovi and that the music was a little loud!
Getting anywhere is a nightmare, trying to cross the road is a little scary, there are hardly any zebra crossings and people rarely stop at them anyway. Theres this huge junction in the centre of town, you have to cross 6 lanes of traffic, it's about 40m wide! Theres a crossing with a green man, and a clock telling you how many seconds you have to cross. It starts off on 10 then by the time you cross the first lane it's gone down to 3 so you have to sprint the rest of the way, meanwhile the cars are all revving their engines ready to run you over!
We decided to get something to eat from the supermarket near our hostel, the girls safely chose crips I was feeling adventurous so decided on what I thought was a pasty. I don't know why I chose it because it had probably been sitting in the glass cabinet all day! I bit into in cautiously and the pastry was so sweet, so I opened it and what was inside was actually the colour of Slimer out of Ghostbusters. Bright luminous green, could have been snot who knows but I did not try it! After I settled on something safer we went up to bed and I slept like a log! I was so pleased because of the jet lag I didn't sleep a wink on the first night and felt so weird like I was at sea I felt like I was going to fall off my seat when I wrote the last post! x x x
