Our next destination was the beautiful Taupo, which has the biggest lake in New Zealand - its so big that you can fit the whole of Singapore in it.I was also told that if one person stood at one end and held a piece of string, and another person stood at the other end holding the other end, that the string would touch the bottom due to it bending around the world. However, Nia told me this, so I'm not sure her facts can be trusted - I like it though! The main things to do in Taupo are the Tongariro Crossing, which is an 18km walk across Tongariro National Park, allowing you to see the famous Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings.I was really keen to do this, but was also more excited to do this other thing Taupo is famous for, which is the cheapest 15,000ft skydive in New Zealand.I made a decision to do the Skydive first, and spent the next 2 and a half days sitting around waiting to do a skydive!Stupid really.Didn't get to do the walk or the dive due to poor weather, and couldn't bear to sit around Taupo anymore just to wait, so headed off with our group.Got to do an amazing but shorter walk in the National Park, taking us to a beautiful waterfall, and an area where Gollum was filmed catching a fish, when Frodo and Sam had been caught by Faramir and his men.Know the one?Not a great description.I later returned to Taupo on my way back to Auckland, and spent another 2 days waiting to do the walk, and it was cancelled due to bad weather!!I've not been lucky in Taupo! Its fair enough though, cos you don't want to do an 18km walk, and not be able to see more than 2ft in front of you, which was the case when I was there.Hey ho - will just have to go back to New Zealand!!What a shame!
