Hi all,
Here goes, this is our first journal entry, hopefully the first of many as we embark on our trip round the world.
We flew from Heathrow to our first destination Bangkok, Thailand. The flight took eleven hours which gave us all a lot of time to contemplate what we have left behind, by the time we arrived two out of the five were ready to backdoor it and come home, no prizes for guessing who!!!
The first thing we noticed when walking out the airport was how humid and heavy the air around us felt. We took a taxi to our hotel and it soon became apparent how busy the city actually is. Driving through Bangkok at rush hour is a pretty daunting experience. The volume of traffic is frightening and so is the pollution it creates.
Booked into our hotel, it is a very plush accommodation and being the champagne backpackers we tucked straight into the mini bar. The hotel is expensive for Thailand and we know not to get used to it, saying that we have booked a third night here.
Spent our first night on the Koh San Road, it was Halloween and a lot of the locals were dressed us in all sort of outfits. There was party like atmosphere and we were soon getting ourselves involved by drinking the local beer, Chang. Spent the night trying to adjust to using Baht instead of Sterling. It is not that difficult to work out what your spending, however Moulder did manage to spend £5 on a Kebab!!!
Spent the following day being chauffeured on a Tuk Tuk (check the photos out). We spent the day sightseeing. Saw all sorts of temples, statues and sights. A common scam involving the Tuk Tuk drivers is to take you to a suit tailor to buy a suit. If we buy a suit they get free gasoline. When I politely declined the sales man advances by telling him I had no money he offered me two suits for my gold chain. I panicked and quickly fled.
We have also booked our next leg of our tour around Thailand. We travel south to Ko Samui today. Not looking forward to the fourteen hour train journey but quite looking forward to getting out the smog and weird smells in Bangkok.
Missing you all.
Love Ginger
