SHENYANG, Liaoning Province:
Woke up very early this morning (7am!), to leave by 8am for the bus to Beijing City, to get the train for my trip to Shenyang.
Got to Beijing with plenty of time, and went via WangFuJing to have a look for a book for Claire. No joy, so got back on the subway to the train station.
We went for a Subway sandwich lunch - my first in China! It was amazing, totally lived up to my memories! hehe
Seperated from Sarah at the station, and found my way to the waiting room for my train. I was so scared! Other than for a couple of hours in Beijing airport (and that went so well, didn't it!?), this was the first time I've travelled alone in China. The waiting room was full of these really posh, but really old-looking arm chairs... quite surreal really!
Got on the train fine in the end, stupid to worry! The train was pretty comfortable, but as I forgot my book, and I wasn't near a window, it was a pretty boring journey. Slept most of the way!
Got into Shenyang 4 hours later, and was met by Claire, Pete and Kirsty. It was so good to see them all again! We got in a taxi and went to Alexis and Emma's apartment - where I'd be staying. Their apartment was really nice, very cosy, and covered in mandarin post-it notes! Need to work on our apartment a bit more I think!
Morgan and Adrian arrived at the flat as well, and we all went to a Chinese Vegetarian restaurant - it was so cool! None of the food had meat in it, but on the menu it was all listed as 'sweet and sour chicken', 'sausage and melon' etc.. and all the food was made to look like meat. It was really strange, but tasty!
After eating they took me to this bar called Sophie's World, very Western-style. Amanda joined us there, but because everyone had work (it was mid-week) gradually people left to go home. It ended up just me, Emma, Amanda and Claire catching up over some beers.
