After a long flight from Sydney due to a three hour delay, it was a nice relaxing night in Melbourne to start us off. Then a day taking in the sights, followed by the Queen Victoria Night Market where Helen tried Kangaroo, Emu and Crocodile and we were serenaded by the local police band which consisted of middle aged men trying to be rockers!!!
Then an early start to head up the Great Ocean Rd. Lunch in a volcano where we saw Kangaroos and Koalas ending up at the top end of the road to see The Bay of Islands, Bay of Matrys, The Grotto and then after dinner the 12 Apostles by sunset, where we saw Penguins making their final journey of the day into their burrows on the beach!
Another early morning to see the 12 Apostles by daylight then London Bridge (which is no longer a bridge after it collapsed) and Lovers Cove before a drive through rainforest ending up in Torquay and Bells Beach to see the surfers.
On return to Melbourne we moved to St.Kilda just in time for the festival on the Sunday where pretty much the whole town was shut off to make way for bands of all types, street performers and market stalls, lasting all day and into the early hours. As with all Australian events, was brilliantly organised and lots of alchohol was drunk!
Recovered on the Beach at St.Kilda the next day (which unfortunatley was no match for Sydneys beaches) then on to the Neighbours tour in the evening where we saw the tiny Ramsay Street and other neighbours hotspots such as Erinsborough High and Grease Monkeys as well as having the pleasure of meeting Janelle Timmons.
It was then a quick stop over for a few hours in Sydney Aiport and onwards to New Zealand.
