The next morning our new bus turned up with our driver dippy. |Not sure i mentioned it before but these drivers get there names by something that had happened in training, dippy's training finished yesterday and with first day nerves his name definitely suited him. On the way to Mt Cook we stopped to take lots of pictures of the amazing blue Tekapo lakes, the pictures don't really do them justice i have never seen water so blue. The colouring is down to the minerals that run from the glacier up in the mountains. Arriving at our hostel at the base of Mt. Cook with its panoramic view of the mountain range was a highlight. Unsurprisingly after an hour the sky had clouded over the rain started and seeing as kev had been so ill the last 3 days it was inevitable that i felt rubbish. As usual all activities were cancelled so we retreated to our room with tea and caught up on Bleach (anime series).
Day 2 on our Dippy bus we left a sunny (typical) Mt. cook and headed to Rangitata stopping at a pretty place called Geraldine and listened to a old man in a dickey bow playing the accordion. It really is the little things that make me smile.
Just for reference there is really only one thing to do in Rangitata which is rafting... which they prefer down some terrifying rapids and almost drowning yourself. Amazing as this sounds we had spent so much money so far that our budget couldn't stretch to it so instead we found the second best thing and played, very badly and almost as dangerously, ping pong. We had great fun. In the evening kev retired to do some catching up on the internet and booking our next few days accommodation and i sat out with a couple of girls that we had met on our previous bus for a while comparing bits and bobs about our own countries as you do. Even though we didn't get to half drown ourselves it still turned out to be a very nice day.
