Our most excellent adeventure began with a whirlwind trip to NYC, a stop-over visit until our flight to Germany. Our goal was to live-up the city as much as possible - eat, walk, shop, see a play, and generally wear ourselves out. We saw a wonderful musical - Once... - and had a wonderful dinner at Basso 56. We made a visit to the beautiful Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, the American Girl Doll store and the Swatch store, Central Park, and Magnolia Bakery. I love NYC!!
Our flight to Germany left JFK at 8pm on December 20. The flight was easy. I watched movies and finished knitting my scarf. I was not able to sleep a wink, though.
The real adventures began when we arrived in Frankfurt. We had reserved a rental car but soon realized the car did not even come close to accommodating our luggage. I came up with the idea of storing extra bags at the Sheraton attached to the airport (our last stop-over before Singapore), which they graciously allowed because of our platinum status. Four hours later, with problem solved, we finally hit the road to Nuremburg.
Our trip to Nuremburg was slow and painful due to 1) traffic and 2) extreme jet lag. We ended up pulling off on the side of the road and taking a nap. It was the kind of tired that is so intense that you feel drugged. What was supposed to be a two hour drive turned into four. So, 8! hours after arriving in Germany, we finally made it to the hotel.
Not wanting to miss out on ANYTHING, we showered and immediately set out for the Christkindlmarkt and a good, traditional German dinner (complete with good beer!). After a short time exploring, we went back to the hotel for a much needed good-night sleep. We stayed at the Le Meridien and our room was awesome! We also all LOVED the breakfast. All you really need to know is that there was champagne on the buffet :-)
The next day, we explored the Christkindlmarkt from one end to the other, with visits to beautiful fountains, churches, and castles intermixed. We tried all of the yummy treats and did a little shopping. The only bad thing about the day was that D1 was sick and had to stay in the hotel room. She was wise to rest up and be ready for our trip to Vienna. Otherwise, we had a great time exploring the world's oldest Christmas market!!
Next up....Vienna!
