Hello from Goats with the Wind!
It has been a while since I wrote because I literally have to climb up a mountain to get Internet, but, alas, I am here.
If I had one word for goats with the wind, I would say extreme, I can't think of any other words. Allow me to elaborate:
1) it is extremely beautiful. The farm is on the side of a mountain overlooking a valley with the city of Nazareth in the background. There is a constant breeze, hence the name, and the sunrises/sunsets are mind blowing.
2) it is extremely quirky- both humans and animals. We will start with the goats. Goats, in turns out, are gross and weird. We have four pens for them here- pregnants, babies, normals and the isolation pen for crazies. *authors note- these are the names given by volunteers, not the technical term used by the professionals* There are two goats there, one who was driving everyone crazy bc he over-ate and wouldn't stop moaning for three days. We all sympathized, who hasn't been there on thanksgiving. The other we call Tina turner because she won't stop spinning. Every time she takes a bite of weed, she has to spin counter clockwise, it is so odd. There is a gang of geese who police the grounds that hiss and chase you if you do something they don't like. I live in fear of them until I have my pitchfork in the morning. There is a peacock and a hideously ugly duck which constantly fight/ maybe try to rape each other. There are puppies which are adorable and VERY curious, you find them in the weirdest places.
Now the humans are just as odd. Amnon is the husband and he is just like your local grandfather but slightly nuttier. He mumbles a lot, tries to teach you "wise lessons" but ends up offending you, guarantees Obama will bomb Israel one day ( I spoke up on that one), and generally yells about "keeping silent". His wife daliah, is the oldest woman with dreadlocks I've ever met and is very sarcastic but I've grown to really appreciate her. Their son, yaakov, works around the farm and is just generally a cranky sourpuss, which is good because his wife is too and they go great together. The other volunteers are amazing, however, and we all laugh at the absurdity together.
3) it's extremely natural- turns out nature, where the goats get it from, is both beautiful and gross. I've loved watching mother animals take care of their puppies and kids like in the wild, but I don't love feeding goat placenta to dog puppies. Yep, we do that. The animals give birth almost every day, but I've seen 3 deaths since I've been here. It's life at its most beautiful but, sometimes, at it's cruelest.
Last week was a tough one, I missed adi, ynon and the farm and wasn't sure how to adapt to this crazy bin. Once again, Shabbat saved me and I remembered that each farm is different, each place is special, and, if nothing else, I will surely laugh when I look back at my days at goats with the wind.

BJH Glad to finally see this, I was having blog withdrawals! Beautiful, quirky and natural...sounds like someone I know and love. Watch out for the goat "butts" but I'm kind of bonding with Tina.
Dad Yeh Linz, I can really appreciate why you picked this farm - so envious: climb a mountain to access internet, encounters with attack geese, mumblin host, sourpuss kids, goat placenta feedings...where do I have to stand in line to get in on this action? The bar has definitely been raised - the next farm is going to have to have quite an interesting cast of characters to top this one. Maybe you should request a transfer to winery duty. Why do I feel like my life is so boring all of the sudden?
Sheldon Tina Turner. I can't stop laughing at picturing that. Talk about an interesting time, definitely the most interesting stories you've shared so far...can't wait to hear more about them in detail. and who really loves feeding goat placenta to anyone? is that normal?!
lolo FINALLY! i have missed this study break! Glad to hear you are adjusting well to this new farm, you have such a great perspective on everything that I envy your positivity! And don't hate on Tina...she's not crazy...she's OCD. That's my professional opinion, and I sympathize. haha love you!
CassPaz How you classify your goats is pretty sure what my corporate cubicla arrangement is! HA..HA..(slits wrist). While Lolo may sympathize with Tina i for one respect the over eater. We get it, your eyes are bigger than your head, sometimes you seek emotional comfort through that, a drunk guy on the street calls u cute and suddenly youre envisioning your future with him. IT HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF US. Lynns convinced anyone over the age of 12 with dreadlocks is casting spells so do with that what you will. Glad the reflection time centered you again. Also glad youre not in bangkok, though who knows, give it a wk. LUC
