Night Location: Bellagio, Italy
Song of the Day: Poker Face - Glee Cast
Mumisode of the Day: Mum had been up early doing the washing (her favourite activity) and due to the wind, she had to hold the clothesline down with an ornamental rock. She was a little concerned that the ducks would be wearing David's undies when we returned!
Today was a very happy day. We all went into Bellagio and wandered the shops and lanes exploring. There was a lot of purchasing done, the highlight being silk umbrellas that have to be now packed into the bags for the remaining eight weeks. They were simply too beautiful to pass up.
We had another traditional Italian long lunch. Long in the sense that it was about an hour before they took our order, then 40 minutes for a pizza, then another hour for the coffee menu. We all laughed at the loud American conversation going on behind us. They were raving about some of the places we had been to and we all felt very pleased with our itinerary so far.
David at last had his Italian barber experience with the cut-throat razor. Amber got photographic evidence of the occasion with David looking a little uneasy. While David was in the chair, Amber and Gemma discovered a fantastic glass piece of the Bellagio village and countryside. It was so spectacular that we went back to the shop three times before it was purchased and shipped home. Can't wait to see where it is hung in the Merewether house.
Our final night was a night out in the 'Ristorante Aurora', right near our villa and overlooking the lake with the lights reflecting in the water. There is something really beautiful about a lake. Seeing buildings and lights on the other side of the water provides so much interest. Gemma and David tried the traditional lake fish risotto that turned out to be an excellent choice.
Returning home there was much delight in the packing now that some items had been sent home. The ice floors and Titanic bed will not be missed. After the first night, Amber and David piled the other two remaining single mattresses onto their slat, futon bed and slept much better.
Tomorrow we are traveling to Venice, via Verona.
