Song of the Day: Joy to the World - Three Dog Night
Mumisode of the Day: Dad today has been helping to contribute to the 'washing cycle' and has spilled both kerosene and purple cabbage on his clothing. Mum who is in her element this evening and is doing the washing was contemplating what Dad was going to wear so that she could wash all the items that were dirty and announced, 'He'll just have to get into bed naked!" just as the waitress, who spoke excellent English, was coming to collect our plates.
It was a lazy morning today. Everyone slept in. Marvellous. After breakfast, the group set off down the main street of Sarlat where a massive market had taken over the town. There was so much on offer, particularly fresh food. Some incredible fresh strawberries were purchased here.
Dad then guided us on a walking tour of Sarlat. The most intriguing part of the walk was to a cylindrical tower, with a cone top. The bottom floor is a circular room with low seats and a vaulted ceiling. Above this is a room with no access from below. The guide book states that no one is sure what this room was created for or how it was accessed.
The buildings here are a beautiful rich honey colour, and medieval lane ways lead from one square to the next. We saw what remains of the original city wall with gateway and then wandered home for a fresh baguette. Our house has an amazing terrace out the front, where the warm sunshine provides a fantastic spot for lunch. Today was unseasonably warm at 21 degrees, so everyone was able to walk around in T-shirts.
After lunch, we piled back into the car, considerably easier without the mound of luggage and went exploring the nearby villages. The castles in this area, built on the side of cliffs and overlooking the river, are really quite impressive. Stand outs for the afternoon were Beynac and Domme.
The children were all dropped off by Mum and Dad for a fantastic afternoon nap. Gemma, Amber and David napped in the sun on day beds until the sun disappeared behind the trees and then continued their nap inside. Perfect.
