So we arrived on this island with the intention to chill out for 4 or 5 days and head over to the Krabi Province for Koh Phi Phi etc. We've now been here for two weeks and still don't want to leave!
We've met so many great people and have loved being able to walk down the street at anytime day or night and see people you've met and likely had a beer with. That's not even mentioning the numerous Thai guys selling you "the best pancake on Koh Tao" at every corner. A firm favorite after a night of lash.
Since the initial Koh Tao blog we haven't really done a great deal. Snorkeling and relaxing by the beach/pool have pretty much been the focus of most of our days. We managed to catch some sport in the evenings every now and again, all of which has been perfectly timed around beer o clock, apparently the men's Wimbledon final went to 5 sets, who'd have known!
A couple of days ago we did drag ourselves away from the mainland and headed over to the Nang Yuan islands, a divers paradise just a short boat ride away from Tao. Since we weren't diving however, it was a touch disappointing. There was a distinct "family feel" to the place with the what could have been aesthetically pleasant sand bars that link the three islands littered with parasols and towels from Germans who were up at sunrise to reserve their coveted spot, spoiling it somewhat. A short walk up to the highest point on Nang Yuan made the trip definitely worthwhile with views over both the Nang Yuan group and Koh Tao, impressive to say the least!
We've now booked ourselves onto the taxi-boat-train-taxi-boat combo to get ourselves to the Perhentian Islands off the East coast of Malaysia, heading out in a couple of hours time.
The Malaysian Persuasion. Coming soon..................
