LITTLE BRITIAN
We are now in Singapore and staying in a small hotel, just two blocks up from Raffles, which overlooks Park View Square; an incredible gothic meets art-deco office block that looks like something out of a Batman film. Everything here is very clean and there are well tended tropical garden everywhere you look. It is easy to see why so many people come to Singapore for the shopping. Orchard Road has literally dozens of shopping malls and possibly more branches of Marks and Spencer than the whole of the UK - it's almost like being back in Blighty! The number of old colonial buildings in Singapore makes it a really attractive city to wander around. The big drawback to visiting Singapore is that it is really expensive to stay here. As such we've decided to move swiftly on to Indonesia. We had hoped to take a boat from Singapore to Java but it takes 2 and a half days and you have to change boats in Sumatra. It turns out that a flight is almost as cheap and a lot less hassle.
Next stop Jakarta…
