G'day everyone, I thought it was about time I put thumb to touch screen & gave you an update on my first 2 weeks in Sth America. After a mad dash to vacate my apartment, finish up at work, tie up loose ends & bills and pack my bags for London & Sth America, I was certainly in need of a holiday! I flew into Santiago I was very impressed & a little surprised by how modern & orderly it was. Was not what I expected from Sth America at all... it wouldn't take me long to find out what an oasis Santiago is! I then flew up to Bolivia & jumped straight on a 13 hour bus trip to Uyuni. This bus trip was my REAL welcome to the continent! Crammed seating, people sleeping in the aisles, 6 hours of dirt (read: mud) roads and one bogging later I arrived in Uyuni... itself a real eye-opener! One of the drowsy places I've ever been, despite being at 3,700m ASL! I booked myself onto a 3 day tour of South-Western Bolivia which included Salar de Uyuni (the famous salt flats), stunning snow-capped mountain scenery, tiny towns that were like something out of a country & western movie from a time before cars, natural geysers, flamingos and piccunas, crazy rock formations and last but not least, amazing lakes that ranged from blue to green to white to red in colour!!! At this point I already thought Bolivia was a country of extremes, but I 'ain't seen nothing yet'!
