Meikles Adventure
Up at the crack of dawn – coffee,
cereal for the kids & pack down & off to Bell Gorge – we got to the
path’s start just after 7:30am – pretty amazing!
Sunscreen, walking shoes, bag of
essentials & we’re off…
A bit of a trek over rock bairns (I
think they’re called), kids did well!
Very green & the rock such beautiful colours in parts. Up and over the 1st rocky
bypass to look down on the waterfall. Not flowing that much right now but still quite magnificent –
probably the most fast flowing one we might see on this road(?)
We took the route down the cliff now
to the 1st pool nearest the top waterfall, had a look and found a
spot to get in – early still so only seen 1 group of people and they’ve gone –
amazing! We swam and walked down a few dips of the waterfall to a couple more
pools, got covered in tiny little worms all over our bums sitting in another
one – a bit yucky, saw a couple who brought their tube chair floaties and
floated & walked down to the bottom of the falls – it was great. Back up the cliff and back to the
hiking back to the car – although it had been pretty far, we’d all done
magnificently to keep up with the walk – well worth it too!
On the road again, heading for
Manning Gorge. 1st stop
Imintji Store for scones & then further through …. Station to reach Manning
Gorge – not even busy, we got a spot right in front of the swimming hole at
Manning Lower where the camp was run by the Station up the road.
Magic spot – the pool was just
fantastic, sandy beach to get in & a boat that people pull on a really long
rope from one end to the other to go the quicker route to Upper Manning
Gorge. So good to have somewhere
to swim so close to camp in this heat too, we got to swim 2,3,4 times a day while
we were there & there were loads of people following the same plan.
Set up & off for a swim – an
just laze this afternoon away which suits us fine right now – super!
Supper & the night got away from
us, as it always seems to in this big wide open…
