Meikles Adventure
Well what a wild, wet and windy night. I have been lying in bed this morning wondering when its going to stop because soon my bladder will burst! Luckily we found this spot in the middle of nowhere in Grampians National Park and we're on a bit of a hill because most of the water has run off and this morning there is now a stream down the hill where there was not one yesterday – it really did pour down! Sach has come out and made another huge bonfire – used a chainsaw for a couple minutes (which I don’t think is allowed here(?)) – and split a bit to find some dry wood. Breakfast for the girls and coffee for us – I wonder what today will bring – here’s hoping after the rain we will manage to get out of this place tomorrow…
Girls played out on the log – had a couple of whoopsi sobs along the way – a splinter & a bit of a face dive or head over trying to spin around a pole!
Some toast and Sach put toilet/shower up – wow what a contraption – lotsa toilet going – no shower happened just yet (pretty cold out here). Sach put a really good tarp up outside front of annex – another $50 spent well. The wind came and blew it down about 10pm last night – only a little walkway to get out but this morning we have had quite a bit of rain and had our breakfast and spent a but if time under it due to more downpours during the morning (once he put it back up of course 1st thing in the morning).
Sach went for a ride about 12 to work out our way to go to the falls or just have a "look see" as he likes to on his bike. Not too much later he was back backfiring – got to reserve tank a bit early and thought he better come back just in time.
Bonfire still raging at this stage.
Girls dressed into something else – no, still no shower… Sach unhitched car and we got some winter gear to go and off we went to McKenzie Falls. Not too far to get outta this place from this side, thank goodness! A bit of trouble with ABS and brake on warning in car, plus a very load buzzing which was very annoying – oh dear maybe some more money has to be spent on this car- urgghhhhhhhhhhh….
Walk down to falls after about 25km in car (one way)- saw kangaroos – loads on the way.
Another pretty big oopsi – Jaz and dad took a tumble down the stairs at the first observation spot on the walk down. Poor Jaz, blood coming out of her mouth and a big scrape on the nose! Lotsa crying – poor Jaz. Falls excellent though. Walked all the way down – some photos to show how beautiful it was.
On the way back we saw heaps of Roos and some emu as well – but just so so many kangaroos – I have never seen so many all together I don’t think ever. We went and took a closer look – note photos.
No ABS or brake warning on the way home – thank goodness but what was wrong before?
Back at the camp we set up for dinner and getting out of here tomorrow. Supper and a huge ginormous fire – this is the life!! J
