Meikles Adventure
AFL Grand Final Day today. Sach prepared – we know where to go to watch in Darwin. Our next door campers who found the place to go have opted out as Tom (the dad) has an burst eardrum.
Had some toast at the camp kitchen – 1st toast in awhile now with my toaster gone – the things you appreciate huh!
Another load of washing & a swim before we go. Got to the pub about 1pm after stopping on the way for a couple camp supplies. Beachfront Bar in Nightcliff, tables already full but we found a spot and ordered some food and – the final – or rather not so final as we found out at full time. St Kilda vs Collingwood – so it's a biggie, especially for Sach – wouldn’t it be great if they could win! The last time Collingwood was in the final we were all sitting in a pub in Werribee – with Bob & Ragga I think – no kids yet - wow we miss you Bob – so so much!
What a good day. Took the kids down to the park across the road at half time, but they really do a great job of keeping themselves occupied for the most part, as per usual.
Game was absolutely fantastic really and so close in the last quarter, and then 1 point up, 1 point down & then when the final whistle went – well the score was tied – 68 / 68 and that was it… They didn’t play it out, it was just over. Such an anticlimax though, noone yelling in the bar, noone yelling out on the stands – just quiet – nobody quite knew what to do or how to feel. Now they’re going to play again next week – gee that must be a *******e for those players, even for the spectators who paid money to be in the stands, travelling possibly interstate – just crazy stuff!
They had a guy singing after the game though and he was really good – or rather just sang some good, catchy tunes and the girls and I got dancing and we stayed there until about 6 or so when the place started to get a little too rowdy & Jaz, after dancing on the dancefloor by herself (she’s a good little dancer I tell ya, and just loves to perform for an audience I think) – she was stuffed, fell asleep in my arms by the end of it. Sach up on the dancefloor with Tenille by then – he also getting a little messy by that stage.
Back to camp, catch up with our neighbours who’d been at the caravan park bar watching the game, we then went up for a short late night swim & slowly all headed off to bed.
