So the past few days have been busy busy busy, so I've decided to write them all into one entry.
On Sunday we arrived into Queenstown and noticed immediately the drop in temperature... Time to dig out the woolly hat! We arrived at what we thought was the closest stop to our hostel before being told that although it looked that way on the route map, the hostel was actually a few roads up the mountain. After a strong uphill walk we made it to butterfli lodge. It's a cute little hostel, very homely with a log fire and the most amazing few across the lake. For the rest of the day we wandered into Queenstown and visited Patagonia where I had the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted! This was followed by a trip to Fergburger for a massive burger.
Monday morning was an early start as we were doing the Nevis swing! We were super nervous as we headed to the sign in posts. I had expected that we'd have to wait in line and watch all those before us endure the drop and swing as our nerves built. Luckily we were the only swing goers that session and walked across the bridge and straight to the swing. After being harnessed up we were told to dangle our feet over the edge and we were pushed out over the canyon. The operator called us to look behind and instinctively we both suspected he'd hit the drop button as we did so... And yes we were right. The drop was an amazing thrill, then we relaxed as we swung the 300metre back and forth before being hauled back up to the station.
In returning to town we quickly grabbed some lunch before meeting up with Laura, who we had met back in Sydney, we enjoyed a hot chocolate and had a good catch up before crashing back at the hostel with some food. The evening was pretty chilled as we exchanged stories with fellow travellers and watched the first two episodes of game of thrones season one. I'm hooked.... Need to watch the rest!
Yesterday, being Tuesday, we went wine tasting. This was an afternoon spent trying wines from 4 different vineyards... Safe to say by the end I was feeling rather jolly as we popped to the pub for a final drink with Yvette and Chris who were also on the trip. I had an early night that day due to feeling a little tired and run down... Sleep seemed to be the best solution.
Today Laura Richard and I planned to climb the gondola hill... This turned into a movie day when we saw the torrential rain which would make the climb a little dangerous. Around lunch time we decided to make by hand, burgers. These turned out to be the worlds largest burgers! Tasty but proof that too much of a good thing does exist. I am currently cosied up on the sofa in my nice warm socks and jumper by the lit fire and have no intentions of moving anytime soon!
Milford sounds tomorrow so that will be an early start!
