CAMBODIA
BY: LAUREN GRIFFITH
Don't you just love when someone makes you smile and makes you feel all fuzzy and warm inside? This is how the kids at Khnar Chas Primary School felt when they received the gifts that Care for Cambodia raised. The kids were laughing, smiling, and playing with their new playground equipment that we got for them earlier that day.The day before we came, they were just sitting under trees, fetching water, and playing tag. Today they are more lively than ever. The director of the school loved seeing the new playful looks on their faces. Our guide Sam was a former student at that school. He was happy to see the kids out and playing.Sam really wants to help Cambodia one step at a time.
The water tank that we donated is a great help to the school. They can water their gardens of Morning Glory. They will sell the Morning Glory at the market and use the money for the school. The also can use the water tank for running water for the bathroom. They will also be able to use the running water to put sinks in the classrooms.
Next we set off down the road to the computer center. It is located in the village church.First Sam had three computers in the Center now he has eightthanks to Care for Cambodia. He teaches kids how to type and use the computers. Sam was extremely happy. As Sam said, "His dream is starting to come true."Sam's house is just down the road from the computer center. He is a very simple man, with a small house, and big a heart.
Doing this project has really opened my eyes to other peoples needs.Thank you everyone who has helped with this project. It has been a great experience.Cambodia needs a lot of care.

Cambodian eyes are so big just like their hearts. This describes our journey and service project in Cambodia. We went down a dusty road to Khnar Chas Primary School where our tour guide, Sam, went to school. When we showed up the kids were in lines like it was an assembly. Then when the car was parked I saw what we've been raising money for, the water tank was there gleaming in the sun. A smile peeked out as I saw everybody around it. GSA got a tour of the school and left to go get supplies. On the way, we went to see Sam's computer lab. Three computers are what consisted of the lab, only two worked. When Lauren was walking through the lab, she stepped on a cord and turned off all the computers. So we knew what the needs where at this point. We needed to purchase a water tank and supports to make it function. The cost was $1000. Hula-hoops and a variety of balls for the kids to play at recess were $100. Next we purchased seven more computers for $750.
The next day we came back to the School and delivered the gifts. The kids surrounded the car eager to see what was inside. Our group got out and threw balls into the children's arms, we demonstrated how to hula-hoop and just took pictures of all the beautiful children. I loved the look on all the faces I saw; a smile can make a difference. This trip was worthwhile, a good deed was done, and the kids at Khnar Chas Primary School will never for get us.We hope to continue to help this school in need in the future.Your generosity is appreciated!Yes I wrote this by myself, thank very much

Care for Cambodia
To The Rescue
Picture going to school every day walking without shoes, or not having enough money to buy a uniform, having no running water, no playground equipment, and hardly enough school supplies. This is what it is like for many underprivileged Cambodian children. With the help of our donors Care For Cambodia raised about $3000 that went to improve the condition of Khnar Chas Primary School, and Boskralanh Village where many of the children live.
One item we bought for the school was a water tank. It is a little less than six feet long and is about three feet in width. The tank was made of a shiny metal that when you looked at it, it distorted your image like a fun house mirror. Seeing it up on the twelve-foot stand almost completely installed made me really happy. If my school did not have running water I would hate to go! The tank would provide water for so many things. There will be running water in the bathroom, hoses to water the garden of flowers and fields of morning glory. Having this new water tank will help improve hygiene, as well as, help keep kids healthy. In addition there were many steps to get the tank set up. It was a long process that included a welder, a pump, pipes, and much more, but in the end it was very rewarding.
Boskralanh Village Computer Center is located in a United Methodist Church building, and was started by Sam our guide. When we first visited they had three computers but only two worked. Sam's vision is to make a computer center to teach kids how to use computers. Some skills they are learning are typing, how to use Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, and Excel), and how to use a computer in general. I really believe that Sam's center is a great place, because these kids live in the country and there is no other place they could use such technology as a computer. If kids want good jobs when they grow up they will need computer skills. Care for Cambodia helped by donating five more computers, a voltage box, and a years worth of money to pay the electricity bill. We are very fortunate to have technology, and it feels good to give the computers to the students to assist their progress in their learning.
As we brought our big bag of supplies into Khnar Chas Primary School we saw kids having recess in the dusty schoolyard in the shade. With no playground equipment, no slides, balls, jump ropes, nothing. As we unloaded our supplies in the conference room the teacher's faces lit up and the kids started grinning ear to ear as they helped. I couldn't help to smile myself. The school director said they had never seen such modern materials. Eventually GSA got a tour and we assessed the schools needs. Our conclusion was that they needed chalk, playground equipment, and children's books. The teachers also requested two bulletin boards. Thereafter Care For Cambodia went shopping for supplies. We purchased Khmer books, ten white boards, two bullion boards, balls, hula-hoops, paper, and classroom items. We revisited the school one more time and gave them the new supplies, played, and said our goodbyes.
This trip was a memorable experience that I will never forget.Seeing all of these poor children makes me appreciate how lucky I am.It feels great to make a difference in the lives of those in need.I would like to continue helping others in the future. Thanks to all who contributed in Care for Cambodia's vision.
