Whistler - Horseshoe bay - Vancouver
It was still raining when we awoke so we knew we had made the right decision to move on. Hubbie had been secretly praying that the temperature would have dropped overnight and there would be snow on the ground and acres of powder on the mountain, so he was a bit grumpy when he looked out the window. His spirits were revived after a hot breakfast and shower.
Our RV initiation had suggested that we get rid of our grey water and sewage before travelling as the extra weight makes the fuel consumption less efficient. The sewage levels were still low but hubbie decided to jettison the grey water (washing up and bathroom water), so had his first waste dumping experience!
The campsite owner had mentioned that the bears could often be seen crossing the roads in spring, so we vigilantly scanned the rivers and roadside forests for bears during our journey south to Vancouver, but were once again disappointed.
The waterside road offered stunning view of the islands in the bay and we made two sight-seeing stops on our route. Shannon Falls was first, which was a thundering body of water falling from fifty metres, flooding the valley with a fine mist which encouraged exotic ferns to grow at its base.
Our second stop was in sunny Horseshoe bay and the nearby Whytcliff park where we stopped to make some sandwiches and heat some soup. As we strolled down to the bay we were lucky enough to chance upon a pod of porpoises playing in the bay, which we were fortunate to catch on camera.
We eventually dragged ourselves away from the peaceful cove and headed into Vancouver and onto our next RV campsite which I had pre-booked via the internet. It was in a perfect position just ten minutes walk from the SkyTrain which would take us directly into Vancouver centre for our family reunion the next day.
This particular RV park also added a touch of luxury to our trip as it had free hot showers, Wifi, laundrette, heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi and public TV lounge. All of which we took advantage during the afternoon and evening.
